I'm engaged!
I don't really post too much in D&R, but I'm just so happy that I had to post this thread. My fiancee and I were friends from 9th grade, and we actually started officially dating in March of my senior year of high school. Kind of stupid to start something right before we were going in different directions for college, but it happened and I'm lucky that it did.
She went to Boston, I went to Philly, and we maintained a long distance relationship all through college. It was really hard in the beginning but eventually we kind of fell into a rhythm. We would see each other once a weekend during the semesters, and then of course during breaks. All this time, I had to deal with disapproval from my parents (mainly my Dad) because I'm Indian and she's white. But we stuck together and we grew a lot together by having to deal with so much adversity.
After college we both came back to CT and so we were thankfully able to be together often. My mom was pretty quick to accept her but my dad was still being the hardass that he is. I finally just put my foot down and told him in September that she was the one and I was planning to get engaged. He finally came around, and this past Saturday I popped the question in NYC! So, I'm officially engaged to the woman of my dreams!

Congrats!
Glad to hear your father came around. In most cases, parents are sincerely trying to look out for you and your best interests when they object to interracial marriages. But once they realize that the person you are with is the right one for you, they typically forget about the cultural and other difference and support you 100%. That seems to be the case here.
