I want to apply for U.S citizenship but the process takes about 6 months , this means I wont be able to go visit my GF back home . I could just renew my green card and become a citizen next year but I feel like I shouldn't postpone something so important . She could come visit me for about two weeks , which should be ok , but the problem is we only see each other twice a year . My schedule is more flexible and I can stay with her for at least two months(june-july). If I dont see her now I would have to wait until December. I have been with this girl for about 4 years and I miss her like crazy . What would you do ??

 

Get your Citizenship! If your relationship is strong, then the time apart shouldn't be a problem (i.e. your 4 year long distance relationship). Plus when you get married, she can become a citizen too.

Internet, webcam, and the "stranger-method" should keep you well until you see her in December.

 

I would get my citizenship too. But i don't know much about the law on becoming a citizen. you can't travel while in the process of getting it? I live in the US since I was 5 and travel abroad all the time with just my green card and reentry permit.

 

What nationality is your girl? Is she hot? [post pics, etc the usual]

 

First off...you need to give SOMEbody a call and see how long you can leave/enter the US with a agreen card if you are applying for citizenship.

Secondly...if you have to put off seeing her simply b/c of your citizenship, I would do it.

 

I would forget about her and find someone that is a US citizen or just forget about the US and move back home for good.

 

Get your citizenship first. It's 6 months. Have her visit you or wait.

If you must travel, look up something called Advanced Parole and see if it applies to you. I know when you are waiting for your GREEN CARD to be processed you can use this to travel, but I'm not sure if there is a similar form for when you're waiting for your citizenship papers to be completed.
