When I was younger....Beauty all the way. Then I grew up. Brains wins out all the time.

What's all this about intelligent conversations? I've dated smart and dumb girls and I have never sat down and had extended discourses on philosophy with any of them.

However, I still have to go with "smart enough." Because when somebody is significantly dumber than you, it is the things they do that will piss you off.

Really? Not even over a glass of wine? I'm not talking about breaking down Ayn Rand's roots in Aristotelian philosophy, but don't you ever talk about your own belief systems and how you arrived by them?

I think belief systems have more to do with upbringing and experiences than intelligence.

But I still think it is the day to day stuff that somebody, not of the same intelligence as you, will do that will piss you off. It's also important to note that this is relative. I can't say smart as an objective criteria.

But anyway, it seems like once a relationship moves past the exploration phase, its really just casual stuff that make up 99% of conversations. I'm trying to recall specific instances that this really dumb ex-gf did but nothing postable. I do know that after me, she moved onto this rather dumb guy and he thinks she is just amazing. So it really is all relative.

i wouldnt mind getting some brain

anyways i say neither, id want someone just as smart as me.

someone too smart, would get annoying because i probably wouldn't understand what they are talking about, and could possibly be condescending most of the time.

someone too dumb, would get annoying because they probably wouldn't understand what im talking about, and i could possibly be condescending most of the time.

I personally don't believe that beauty and brains has to be a binary relationship, where either you have to have one or the other. But, to my happiness, I most definitely need a hot girl more than a smart girl. I don't need to date Socrates to be happy. I want to talk to my girl about her skimpy outfits, not objectivist epistemology. Sure, maybe after sex or during casual conversation we can talk about it, but it doesn't do much for me in terms of building and maintaining attraction.

Or vice versa.

I voted cop-out.

Beauty is what first attracts anyone you meet. You see them before you talk to them. If you meet King Kong's ex-wife you've got a problem before she even opens her mouth.
But brains is what keeps you attracted. Like it's been said, beauty eventually fades away. Brains grow. You only get smarter as you get older.
I'd want someone as smart as I am, but in a different way. I'd want to learn new things from her, and I'd also want to teach her new things.

I'd go for an equal amount of both.

beauty over brains because once you nailed her, do you really care what she thinks anyway?
