Bad dates...

Well, as some may know, I got digits via a car incident and ended up going out on Saturday night. Not really a one-on-one date, but kind of a group thang (not in that way, sickos)...

But in the course of the night, it slowly dawned on me how boring this gal was. A conversation would go, she would say one blurb, I respond, she just stops and says "I don't know"... It was okay when we were in a group or dancing, but when it came to conversation, there was nothing to talk about. She works (something in business) and pretty much works out, and then watches TV. Simple enough, but I couldn't find anything to hold a conversation with her besides talking about her brother, with whom I played HS ball with. That was it... the whole evening.

Her friends were pretty cool, some of them knew my brother, but the night pretty much sucked in terms of a 'date' situation. I don't think I've had a date that panned out so bad in like five years...

So, my thread to you is... how's your dating lives been? Any better then mine? Is it really that hard to find an interesting person of the opposite sex? (or whatever your into?)

Junkster, who can't believe, at 26, that dating could go so bad

Could be worst. I had a date that was 40 mins late.

Then I tried another date with the same girl, and she didn't even show up. No return to e-mails or calls. Whatever, I thought, I'll move on...

Then I invited a couple of friends to go whale watching this weekend (I'm renting a 22' sailboat), and one of them has the bright idea of inviting her to come along.

I feel like throwing her overboard and seeing if she floats!

Alright, I'm just kidding. But that's how I felt when she didn't show up on the date.

These things happen. Did you get the digits of any of her friends?

Uh...that sucks, Junkster...

It is possible to find someone interesting to talk to of the opposite sex. There is never a shortage of conversation between me and my gf.

The silence is bad enough, but when you've exhausted topics of conversation, that's pretty much the end of it right there.

And it's hard to find girls that don't have anything to talk about. Most dates at least make the attempt to make a conversation, even if the date is a dud (yes, I've been a dud on a few occasions). You gotta remember the rule: Never burn bridges... people know people who know people for future dating.

What'd you expect from a coincidental, what-the-hell-how'd-i-meet-you-here-let's-exchange-phone-numbers-and-meet kind of date?

Exactly.

The way you meet people who are interestested in talking about the things you're interested in, is by meeting them while doing the things you want to talk about!

I meet most of my dates on wilderness hikes, because that's the kind of thing I'm into. (It's amazing I'm not driving a beat up old Subaru...)

Meet somebody while doing something you both enjoy and you won't run out of stuff to talk about. The older you get, the more this is going to matter.

Burt Reynolds said something like "I've always wanted women who shared my interests. Unfortunately, not many women are into drinking beer and chasing women."
