Asking parents approval
#41
What your problem is?
1. Good Luck
2. Don't ask for blessing/permission. Inform her parents how much you care/love/etc. for their daughter and tell them that you will be asking her for her hand. Seeing as you are going to ask this women to spend the rest of her life with you, you would like them to bless the start of this union. If you ask them for permission then you allow them some power and direction in the decision. By informing them, they have no say, but have to make a choice to either accept you as their son and bless the union or say no but know that it is going to happen anyway.
3. Before you do it, think long and hard. Don't enter into this like most people do these days. Think and accept that their is no out, this is rest of your life, through thick and thin (hopefully, she is thin ), poor or rich, yadda, yadda, yadda... think long and hard my friend... and if you still want to marry this woman... then..
4. Do it and move the hell out of your parent's house.... (now you have some place to do the horizontal monkey dance)

thanks all... whiskey when you get back and settled we need to meet up for a drink or two or three...
i took her to the Rainbow Room (65th floor) of the Rockefeller Tower for dinner last night and requested a corner table on the South end of the floor overlooking the Empire State Building... we arrived at 8PM when it was still bright out and as we were having dinner, you could start to see all the lights from the city turn on as the sun set and it got dark... was beautiful and would have been better if it wasn't so cloudy and hazy...
after dinner, we ordered dessert and i looked over to the empire state building and you could see the people at the top snapping photos with all the flashing... so i looked over to her and said smile, they are taking our picture... she said why would they be taking our photo???
so then i proceeded to ask her "as a kid did you ever fantasize about having the perfect/dream proposal?" (i knew the answer was 'no') so then i said how about at the top of the best room in NYC? she looked at me and was speechless... then she said are you serious??? so i reached in my pocket and pulled out the box and said "will you marry me and be my wife?" she was in shock and then she said yes and kissed me... people around us started to look over and smile... and i put the ring on her finger...
then dessert came out... (we ordered some ice cream thing) but we started talking about it and she was telling me no wonder you were acting so weird all night... and i told her how long i had the ring and how stressful it has been these past few weeks... a few nights i even had recurring nightmares of being shot down... she said that i should know that she wouldn't say no...
eventually the ice cream melted
i have pics up of the skyline. but doesn't do it any justice... here are links to the restaurant

My wife's parents had the same attitude... Actually, it may have been," you WANT her??"
And if you gave her a ring, you're already formally engaged.

Also, good work asking the parents. You know, asking permission is a courtesey and a sign of respect, even if it's not received how you thought it would be. Even if she says it wasn't necessary, you put points in the bank guaranteed.
