No....you don't wait a LONG time, just a bit--I'll take it off and let it sit while I get out the beer. Bear in mind that the steak will have been cooking on a 550° (F) grill and thus will be pretty darn hot. If it is a colder time of year I heat the plate in the oven before I put the steak on it.
