Thumbs down Xbox Died... Awesome

So yeah, I'm in the middle of playing COD4 on Xbox Live and all of the sudden my screen freezes and Im like wtf?? The Xbox isnt responding to anything, so I turn it off, then turn it back on, COD4 loads up then freezes again, awesome... so I try to reboot it one more time and voila... three red flashing rings on the ring of light. This just made my day, how the hell am I supposed to waste time and be unproductive.

Anyways, I logged in online of course it told me my warranty was expired, but I guess because it's microsoft and their hardware sucks and this is an issue I remember they'll repair the xbox for this type of thing for 3 years from when you bought it. So I try to check out and since I use firefox instead of IE I keep getting an error message, finally started up IE went through it again and I'll be awaiting a box in the next few days to ship it to them. Times like this makes me realize how much MS sucks and since bluray won the format war I totally wish I had a PS3

Anyone else a member of this exclusive club with their XBOX 360s?

Try the towell trick while you wait for MS to send the box.

I had this happen to me twice. Microsoft sent a new 360 each time and it took about 3 weeks both times.

Good luck with the towel trick. I know that being without a 360 can be boring as hell so I hope Microsoft hooks you with a new one soon.

Thanks for the support guys, yeah, I'm going to have to try the towel trick, the only good thing is that I'm moving this weekend and this will actually force me to pack up alot of my stuff and move it over to my new place.

I hope this doesn't happen to my newly purchased 360.

I was really hesitant towards purchasing one after hearing so many horror stories.

Had this happen to mine, but I had one of the original 1 edition ones, and they honoured my warranty 2 yrs after I bought it and sent me another one... haven't had any problems since! *knock on wood

towel trick doesnt work for shit

my 360 (bought it februrary 07) took a shit about 4 weeks ago. tried the towel trick a few times but it only made the 360 work for about 5 minutes before dying again.

sent it to microsoft on feb 29th, it is going to be back to me this friday...not too bad of a turn around time. Also, from what ive heard, they also throw in a free month of live for you so thats cool at least. perhaps they will send me one with HDMI output, ill find out friday.

also, if you READ the website, you will SEE that if you have the red ring of death (3 red rings) you get the repair for free regardless of if it says your unit is out of warranty.

ill tell you one thing, i couldnt care less that my 360 died, there is WAAAY too much good shit out on the Wii right now to keep anyone busy. my 360 would just be collecting dust at this point anyway.

I know for a fact it works. It is a temporary fix, but it works if your 360 died because of overheating, which is the cause of most failures.

lets face it, the towel trick is not scientific and its not a proper fix for anything. as you said, temporary...the length of time that "temporary" equates to is different for each xbox i would imagine as again, its not exactly scientific.

for me, "temporary" lasted 5-10 minutes. thats why i will say again, towel trick doesnt work for shit. even if "temporary" means a few days, why even bother with it? better to just accept the inevitable and get the "coffin"from microsoft to start the process of repair

So that you have something to do while you wait for the box from MS.

And when I did it I got 1-3 hours of use each time

Happened to both of my Xboxes. Then I moved to PS3 before realizing that PC gaming is the way to go

My xbox just ran off to the 3 red light district as well. This is actually the second time in a month that this has happened. I had the original xbox from the launch date (the supposed to malfunctioning model) and it lasted 2 and a half years.

For your first repair they send you a refubished xbox, even if the moron customer service rep says it's new, he's lying. A month later the same thing, locked up twice on COD4 and the magic red lights. I'm waiting for my coffin now, they said that they will send me the pro with HDMI for replacement but I'm not holding my breath.

They lied to me once and I'm sure they will be full of crap again. Turn around time isn't bad though considering. My first was sent and back in 2 and a half weeks.

Needless to say I sympathize with you!

i was playing Burnout Paradise when this happened to me...except my dumbass opened up the 360 to clean it out with a can of air, thinking maybe some dust got inside there...didn't work still, so i sent it off to M$ free of charge, but got it back shortly with a note saying i tried to tamper with the system or some shit...which is complete crap because companies sell those replacement covers you can buy if you want to have a 'personalized' case...so buying one of those voids your warranty...wtf?

anyways, i've been looking for a used 360 so i can play GTA IV when it comes out...

My XBox 360 Elite bit the dust this morning. Playing COD4 (trying to get through Charlie Don't Surf on Veteran) when suddenly the whites turned magenta. A couple of resets later, and no output whatsoever video or audio.

I guess now I have a few weeks to start getting back into shape for biking season.
