Wireless N routers?
Wireless N routers?
I already know the breakdown of the 802.11 a/b/g/n system, however I recently got this new AT&T modem, but somehow it is a router in itself or something cause when plugged in it sends a wireless signal. I have the AT&T pro package (3 Mbps) and they sent me this white modem. Anyone know how I can bypass this?
That would lead to the topic question.... is it worth it to get a Wireless N or N+ router and wireless adapter? I know newer laptops come with N adapters but I don't know if its worth it, and I don't know if the modem sends out a signal at the N frequency. If so, what brands/models do you guys prefer? I don't mind Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, Belkin or Buffalo but I would prefer to stay away from Linksys.

I have had a Linksys Wireless N router for about 8 months. I am really happy with it although sometimes my VPN drops for no apparent reason.
The router is set on mixed mode and it has no problems connecting 2 "n" enabled laptops, a Wireless G Printer, and of course the WII and PS3. The speed is nice but really only appparent when tranferring files within the network.
I love Linksys products and since the are a division of Cisco, they seem to put a lot of effort and support into them.

If I wasn't such an Apple brand whore at the moment, I would have bought a Linksys wireless-N router. I have the Apple Airport Extreme router ... I find it works great (for the price ... I bought it online for far less than the Apple Store price, even with the student discount!) One thing that's cool about the Airport Extreme is that it can use wi-fi to print (USB printer) or to store data (external H/D needing USB plug in). I just need a nub to have both features available. I think a comparable Linksys router is > $200 ... not worth it, IMHO.
Going back to original topic -- wireless N is great. No more dropped signal due to cordless telephone issues (damn neighbors!)
