Wii problem-internet
Ok...where to start.
My brothers computer in the basement acts as the hub for our internet. It's where the cable line runs into the router and sends out the wireless signal to my computer upstairs, my mothers upstairs, and my other brothers, upstairs.
As of late we were having wireless problems, loss of connection, extremely slow speeds. I started to get the feeling the Wii had something to do with it, but was unsure. The wii would get connection when nothing else did, and when everything else worked, the wii would not.
I disabled all the internet settings on the wii, and just used it to play. On Tuesday, everything crashed so i thought perhaps the problem was with my cable line, so i called my local company, he reset everything and i tested my modem, no problems.
Everything was good from Tuesday till Thursday when i decided to turn the wii one (had not played since weekend) , and then shortly after, all the internet's crashed again. I simply reset my router and turned off all power to the WII (apparently disabling the internet did not matter)
Cliff notes- Wii messes up my internet, even when internet settings are disabled.
What gives? This does not happen to any of my friends, i even went and purchased a brand new router b/c i thought that was the problem.
I have link sys , and on top of a new router, bought a new access point, now realizing that it makes no difference.
I checked my Wii internet code when i cant connect and it's not the defective one, so im really confused as to where the issue lays.
Thanks

does your router have a gaming or packet prioritization mode? i've experienced similar problems with those modes enabled while playing games and/or using P2P software like Acquisition. try finding/disabling that.

I don't know what to tell you. Just keep the wii offline for a while, and see if it happens again. It's likely some settings in the router that are causing the problem as the wii itself very rarely connects to teh net.
well I had a linksys router reset to factory settings and I had to go through some weird setup procedures to get the internet from my cable modem to work through the wireless or the WIRED at all. If they are both linksys routers, then it could be some default setup interfering with the internet connection.
or maybe it is just that it can't handle all those connections at once. Are any of hte computers downloading pr0n?

You may put the Wii closer to the router and see if that make any different. Another problem may be your house is too far away from the telephone switching station. If that is the case, you should remove the DSL filter and plug the DSL modem directly to the phone jack; or better yet, plug the modem to the plug that is closer to the outside line.
use your hand to feel how hot the router is. If it is very hot, that means there is too many connections.

I have a cable modem, not dsl...not sure if that makes a difference. No pr0n downloads, it's most certainly not the router either. Maybe i need to assign a WEP key and secure the server, but i doubt that will fix anything.
It's strange, it's not even an instant crash of the net. It progressively gets slower and slower untill our modems act as if they are 14.4's.
bah. Now i have a reason to play gears of war on insane....oh goodie

also if your wii is the only wireless device on teh network, you can use a packet sniffer, or possibly a utility of the router to see hoe much data is beings ent through wireless with teh wii in standby, and with the wii powered completely off. If it drops considerably with the Wii off, then you may want to contact nintendo customer support.

you can also use a sniffer like ethereal and filter the Wii's ip address if you want to monitor its activity...
It is a factory issue, call them up and they should replace it no problem.

I had the same problem. They were supposed to ship it last week but didn't because of the washington snowstorms. You can say bye to all your save games. The price early adoptors pay...

obviously its something in conjunction with the Wii, but the Wii is the common denominator.
he has multiple devices PC/Xbox running without a hitch, problems occur when the Wii is in use.
i don't know why people keep suggesting theres too many connections to the router? your router can easily handle tens of connections, some, hundreds. he seems technically proficient enough to check out his routers status page and see what devices are connected.

I have a Linksys router hooked to a cable modem and had issues getting the Wii to work as well. My laptop, DS, and PSP would connect just fine, but not Wii.
Went in to configure the router and made sure everything set just as it needed to be. Still no connection. I even updated the firmware in the router.
So after I got really frustrated, I just went and reset the entire damn network. I took off all of the security and reset the router to factory settings and bingo, everything lit up. After that I re-enabled security on each device and everything seems to be working fine.
I don't know what I did. But try just resetting everything and start from the beginning.

Also, DSL filters are supposed to go on the phone lines that have actual phones hooked up. No DSL filter on the line going to the modem.
I already had the modem/router reset, and disabled, re-enabled security, so i know thats not the problem.
I have a feeling the problem is simple, i just cant seem to pinpoint it. I have this ego issue with these kind of things, i always have to fix them myself before calling help, sorta like asking for directions....heh....dont have time this week but im going to figure it out this weekend.
