who has pre-ordered the new Madden?

Anyone? Just wanted to see if anyone got any good deals? Like a gift certificate somewhere or free shipping w/ that tuesday delivery, etc.

Anyone seen anything appealing out there to make you want to pre-order it?

I'm not going to pre-order it this year. I likely won't have any time to play it until Sept/Oct, so I'll just pick it up around then when it will be readily available.

I will wait for Fry's to know 10-15 bucks off of it after a month, or so.

Sucks for PS3 owners...

Sadly, just like with NCAA Football 08 and All-Pro Football 2K8, PS3 owners are stuck with an inferior version of Madden. While the game runs at 60 frames per second on Microsoft's box, Madden only clocks in at 30fps on Sony's console. The result? The gameplay isn't nearly as smooth as the 360 version and even stutters at times.

Is there really a reason to buy the '08 Madden. Other than the names of the players, is there really any difference???

Better graphics/animations. Improved AI. And the superstar players get something called "weapons feature."

The 2K series was much better than the Madden's of the same years. EA lost a lot of sales due to 2Ks installments and had to up the ante. Too bad that ante was the exclusive NFL licensing

I've had every Madden since Madden 2003 but I've gotten bored of the 2008 version. I lost faith in them. Now that they pretty much monopolized the NFL games, they can do whatever the hell they want because people still buy the name.

I'll pay for this year. Who knows I might pick it up when the price drops. But when they took out the franchise owner feature for 07 or 08 I was pissed. There was something strangely addicting about adjusting the price of how much your beer costs at the stadium. Or it was something else, I don't know.

For PS3 owners, this isn't as exciting. Madden 08 runs (sometimes) at 30 frames per second. It makes a huge difference, as you lose a lot of the subtleties in the animations. There are plenty of framerate hitches that will likely frustrate players. This can cause a lag in the Hit Stick sometimes.

I'll pass until it drops in price.

so far i like it a lot. graphics look real good in hd and gameplay to me seems a lot quicker then in years past. it feels like you have more control over your running back or receiver. theres a lot of diff features that i still havent quite figured out how to use.
my only complaint so far is that you fumble at least once a game. interceptions are pretty common too.

I hate it almost as much as I hated 07. I don't like the next gen madden at all. I liked the 07 ps2 version. Oh well, I guess I'll take back the PS3 version and get the PS2 version. At least it will upscale to 1080i...LOL

It is not glitches, just the noticeable drop in frame rate on the PS3 vs the 360.

Pretty much every review out points that out.

Well duh. We all know how infinitely superior the 360 is to the PS3. One makes cute adorable kittens...the other...well, kills 'em.

EA's response to the performance of Madden '08 on the PS3"

Thank you for your feedback regarding the issues you've found with Madden NFL 08 for the PlayStation 3 game console. While we fully understand your frustration with the limitations the technology has placed against the video frames per second of the game play on the PlayStation 3 game console, it was out intent to put out the best possible with Madden across 10 platforms. While it is very simple to draw a conclusion based on the end-user experience with the game technology, what most people do not realize is hours of research which goes into fully understanding the hardware demands for each console. In the case of the next-generation consoles, many publishers have been developing titles for the Xbox 360 for over 3 1/2 years while everyone who publishes now for the PlayStation 3 with the exception of Sony has been developing for the PlayStation 3 for only a little over one full year. The differences in the overall knowledge of the hardware is vastly different for both consoles and, as is the case with newer technology, it is very difficult to get it right the first time. As for frame-rate differences, 30 frames per second is the same for all PS 3 football games this year, not just Madden but also NCAA Football, and 2K Sports' offering as well. If you choose not to purchase the game, it is a choice fully understand and respect. Please know that I have passed your feedback and observations on to the game team and hopefully someone within their team will be able to address this matter further.

Sincerely,

Rob M.

played a little bit the last two day, i like it more and more. The AI is so much better and I love the that you have to cover up the ball, etc.

Overall, great progression from 07

its nice that they actually gave you an honest response. What he says is true. btw, developing on the 360 is much easier then developing on any other console -- and not just because the PS3 is a newer console...but because the 360 is developed using Microsoft Visual Studio wheras the PS3 is developing using Sony's propreitary dev platform (i believe); so it may take some time before developers are really able to utilize Sony's hardware, and you can probably expect games to come out first on the 360 since its faster to develop.

Anyone notice that when you go into "minigames" you cant get out? There's no option to go back. Also, next time you guys return a kick-off notice the player on the far right going out of bounds. I was under the impression that once you go out of bounds you can not be the first person to touch the ball or hit the runner.

Same thing happend to me while punting.

I just can't get used to the fumbles. I learned that if you are holding down turbo when you are hit and keep it down you always lose the ball.
