STAR WARS- Empire at War

saw the commercial for this last night and checked out the game on a few sites. im a hardcore RTS player, been at it since CC, red alert, starcraft, etc. ive always dreamed of a kickass star wars RTS.

has anyone played this? its a good 50 bucks so i want to be sure. i watched some of the videos and they looked alrite but i want a solid answer. i tried downloading the demo but it wasnt working for some reason.

I picked it up at Walmart today but I only had enough time to install and plat through a couple of scenarios. So far, it seems cool

IGN gives it a 7.6

Description
out of 10 click here for ratings guide

8.5 Presentation
A great use of the franchise at nearly every level. It really brings the Galactic Civil War to life.

8.0 Graphics
The space battles are solid and the galactic interface is slick. Planetary battles leave a lot to be desired.

8.0 Sound
As always, the music and effects are straight from the films. The sound-alikes do a good job with the dialogue.

6.5 Gameplay
Not enough variety in terms of the units to really allow for any strategic flexibility.

7.5 Lasting Appeal
Scores high thanks to loads of campaign options. Scores low due to the repetitive nature of the fights.

7.6
Good OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

You would consider a 7.6 a good review???

I'd say it was average ratings wise.

Well, I just started a game after finishing the tutorials. I am going to play tonight and I'll have more info.

I'm also looking forward to Galactic Civilizations II which should be in stores today!

so after work i said fuck it and went and bought this

its pretty cool. the cinematic view is straight up nuts. my only complaints so far are this

- cant place unlimited structures anywhere you want (you have a set number of places to build, and they are chosen for you) pretty weak considering i came from star craft where we would place 50 cannons at our entrance

-units come from reinforcement points, instead of just poppin out the war factory and barracks...maybe i will get used to it

-a little complicated, but i will get used to it

well...back to play

alrite please disregard my other post

THIS GAME IS FUCKING AWESOME

i havent spent 6 hours straight on the PC since 8th grade when i was playing starcraft all night

the space battles are insane i love them. you can tell your fighters to attack the enemy, then click the cinematic mode and just sit back and watch haha

its way more complex, which i like. instead of just one battle skirmishes for like one map, etc, this shit is galaxy wide. you gotta spread all your forces throughout all the planets you take over

its ALOT different from normal RTS games, where you gotta build a base, gather minerals, etc. i actually kind of like this way because its new. you dont need to build any buildings. basically all you do is build units, stack them up and build an army, then just attack an enemy planet and see what happens. the game takes care of all the mineral and building BS so all you gotta do is fight, stack, defend

i need to go get drunk now and get off this computer for a minute

It cant be to complicated on account that my 8 year old brother has been pwning the shit out of this game all day.

having 2 older brothers must have its benefits, hes a whiz on the CPU.

me on the other hand just pre-ordered battle for middle earth II, which is a hardcore RTS , i suggest you check it out.
