Standalone Media Server

Does anyone have any info on how to build one? What im looking to do is set up a server in my home to stream media to my PS3. I dont like the idea of having my computer on whenever i want to use my PS3 so i was thinking of setting up a machine that would store all of my media separate from my personal PC. What exactly do i need (parts, OS, hardware, software) to set something like this up? can you buy them pre made? thanks.

I dont have a PS3 but I have one I use to stream to my modded xbox...

1. Get a old or cheap PC. You dont need anything too powerful. I have a Pentium D with 1.5gb of memory, you can build one for cheap.
2. Install Windows XP Pro. You can get it online for freezy! LOL
3. Set windows to share
The end...

Another thing I do is added Hamachi, a VPN so I can control it away from home.
Another thing you might want to add is I only have a hard network wire and a power cord connected. I just remote desktop mine.

I dont have a monitor or keyboard or mouse. It saves on costs. (so essentially I plugged in lan for internet and Power cord for power since I dont need anything else. I prefer a lan connection so I put it next to my router, always faster then Wireless and if you restart it it will have internet right away)
All you do is use your monitor/keyboard/mouse to set up the computer initially. Then set a user, password, get the IP address of your server (Run>CMD>IPCONFIG) and enable remote desktop. Once it is enabled unplug the monitor, keyboard, and mouse and put it back on your normal computer. Now you have the IP so any time you need to access the desktop just open remote desktop on your laptop or normal desktop computer or mac or whatever you have and type in the IP address then it will ask for username and password.
