Capcom back in the day had some of the best games. Seemed they got complacent I don't know.

Costco 12-07-2016 01:27 PM

They still make great games. This is Dark Souls-esque (3rd party combat, but much more forgiving and progressive, initially) with a focus on gear/grinding

Nintendo only for the last few titles? And popular only in the Western Hemisphere. Seemed they had more popular AAA titles in the 80's/90's. Mostly sequels lately after a search. Hopefully they release Monster Hunter for PS4 so I can check it out.

Yeah, you're right. I was disappointed that the current gen isn't on a console, but the biggest appeal of it is playing with friends, especially in the past when that was your only option for multiplayer. But now they've got online, and it's fun collaborating with others to bring down a monster.

It's really satisfying to learn the game... especially later on in the game, the monsters can really wreck your shit. Getting hit 2-3 times in a row (without a potion, which has a long animation) can mean a death sentence. You may get destroyed constantly before you finally learn the patterns which can be frustrating. Then occasionally you beat it while only getting hit a handful of times throughout the hunt, or not at all... extremely gratifying.

I've played it on the PS Vita (downloaded), Wii U, 3DS, and I gotta say the Wii U was the most enjoyable, seeing it on the big screen. Of all the games that will ever come out on the Nintendo Switch, Monster Hunter is my most anticipated even if it hasn't been even hinted at yet.

Ive never played monster hunter but i heard great things about the game. maybe if there is a sale for the 3ds then maybe ill pick it up.

Grab PSVR For Just $149.99 Right Now

This month is looking like an ideal time for PlayStation 4 owners in the market for a PlayStation VR headset to finally pick one up. Sony is bringing back some steep discounts on the standalone headset and various bundles, bringing their respective prices as low as they've ever gone.

These new promotions began in the United States on February 18 and see the cheapest option sell for $200, rather than the usual $300. The PlayStation Blog suggests this may just be the standalone headset (which doesn't come with the required PS4 camera). However, the official PlayStation websiteshows that it may also include the Gran Turismo Sport bundle, which gets you the game and camera, but that will require you actually finding a store that has it in stock.

Next cheapest is Doom VFR's bundle, which will go for $300 (down from $400). This packs in a physical copy of Doom VFR in addition to the headset, camera, and the 2.0 demo disc. Alternatively, Skyrim's bundle drops to $350 (from $450) and gets you Skyrim VR, the headset, camera, 2.0 demo disc, and two PlayStation Move controllers. As with a number of other games, Skyrim VR can be played either with the Move controllers or a standard DualShock 4.

These offers will be available until March 3 at participating retailers; according to Sony, these include Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop. If you're unsure about buying one, check out our comparison of the different VR headsets. You could also wait and hope Sony does another promotion where it sends PSVR demo units to people's homes.

One thing to be aware of is that Sony introduced a small revamp of PSVRlast year, allowing HDR passthrough with the breakout box and making other refinements. For more help in deciding which unit is right for you, check out our Doom VFR review and thoughts on Skyrim VR.

That $60 yearly membership to PS Plus is definitely paying off for US-based PSVR owners this time around, as this next batch of discounts is putting over 100 PSVR items on sale including games and DLC. The sale lasts until February 27th

Notable titles coming in hot with at least 70% off are DiRT Rally Plus, Eagle Flight, Werewolves Within, I Expect You to Die, Windlands, Thumper, and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood.

You’ll also find plenty of sub-$10 games worth considering including Darknet, Pinball FX2 VR, Statik, The Brookhaven Experiment, and Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes.

Don’t own a PSVR headset yet? Hardware bundles with everything you need are $100 off until March 3rd.

Next PlayStation Is Three Years Off, Sony Says

Company will spend the time preparing to ‘jump higher in the future,’ says head of videogame unit

May 23, 2018 5:30 a.m. ET

TOKYO—Don’t hold your breath for the fifth-generation PlayStation.

Sony Corp. wants to spend three more years readying its next videogame move, the head of the PlayStation business said Wednesday. That would mark a slight slowdown in the six-to-seven-year update cycle for the console since the first one in 1994. The PlayStation 4 went on sale in 2013 and has sold more than 79 million units.

“We will use the next three years to prepare the next step, to crouch down so that we can jump higher in the future,” said Tsuyoshi “John” Kodera, who took over last October.

Sony has been shifting its PlayStation focus from hardware to online subscription services, including a $60 annual package that includes games and multiplayer features. That service, PlayStation Plus, had 34 million users as of March, fitting the new CEO’s goal of adding revenue sources that are more stable than volatile hardware and software sales.

Speaking to a small group of reporters, Mr. Kodera said the network-services side of PlayStation is changing the way Sony thinks about product introductions.

“We need to depart from the traditional way of looking at the console life cycle,” he said. “We’re no longer in a time when you can think just about the console or just about the network like they’re two different things.”

Mr. Kodera said the company is looking at ways to better incorporate mobility into the PlayStation, traditionally a living-room console. Nintendo Co.’s popular Switch machine can be used both in the home and as a portable device.

Sony sells the hand-held PlayStation Vita, but Mr. Kodera said that when it comes to mobility, the company doesn’t want to limit itself to a single dedicated device. “We need a broader perspective than that because so many things are now connected via the internet,” he said.

One challenge for Sony is competing against companies with broader subscription offerings in entertainment, such as Amazon.com Inc. and Netflix Inc.

Mr. Yoshida, the CEO, said in a separate group interview that PlayStation’s subscription services provide valuable consumer-spending data. He said PlayStation Vue, an internet television service in the U.S. that has struggled to match Amazon and Netflix, is bringing in useful user data and Sony had no plans to shut it down.

Sony cuts PlayStation Now cloud video game service price in half to $9.99 monthly

Oct 1, 2019

Been thinking of giving Sony's PlayStation Now cloud gaming service a spin? Now you have even more reasons.

For starters, the video game maker is reducing the price of the subscription service to $9.99, down from the previous monthly charge of $19.99. You can also subscribe annually for $59.99, down from the original $99.99.

And to sweeten the deal, Sony has just added a quintet of popular PlayStation 4 games to PlayStation Now: "God of War, "Grand Theft Auto V, "inFAMOUS Second Son," and "Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End."

This is the first wave of new featured content Sony plans to bring to PlayStation Now. These releases can be played until January 2, 2020.

PlayStation Now is currently stocked with more than 800 games – hundreds of PlayStation 2, PS3 and PS4 games that can be streamed on the PS4 or on PC devices. And more than 300 PS4 games can be downloaded onto subscribers' PS4 consoles.

Sony's move comes as the entrants in cloud and online subscription game services is crescendoing. Last week, Apple launched its Apple Arcade service ($4.99 monthly) for iPhone and iPod Touch with more than 70 games, and Google started its Google Play Pass ($4.99/month) with more than 350 games and apps for Android phones, tablets and Chromebooks.

Coming next month: Google's Stadia cloud gaming service, which streams console-quality games to your TV, computer or Pixel phone. And Microsoft is expected to begin public testing of its Project xCloud game-streaming service this year, too.

PlayStation Now – not to be confused with Sony's PlayStation Plus service ($9.99 monthly) which gets you online gaming access, discounts and free games – has been around for more than five years.

. . . .

Doom878 10-01-2019 12:30 PM

I'd rather just buy the few games marked down but this seems nice if you game a lot and have flawless internet.

lies! :snicker:

A la carte is costing more each year. Vue was probably doomed also with the perception it was only available on PS4.

Thought you had a PS4...!

But, um...it depends on your cashflow and I'm pretty sure many places allow for some form of trade-in...just keep in mind your credit will be pretty puny. Still, the price of your sanity is worth something, no?

i bought preordered one off amazon and then flipped it for profit

and I just ordered the modern warfare bundle and last of us remastered since it was 12.99 :shoot:

also I got some reason I had a copy of Battlefield 4 for PS4. Not sure why but maybe I mistakenly bought it thinking it was for my ps3 :dunno:

Any recommended games?

probably pick up FFVII, Gran Tursimo Sport and MGS V Definitive Experience.

Thinking Resident Evil 2, but that game freaked me out as a kid

If you're up for a challenge and can get over the difficulty curve, Bloodborne is a MUST. Many will back off after a certain boss and you might need a guide, but the payoff is very high.

GT Sport is nice but mostly for online racing so Pro is required. Having said that, I still bought it because it was like $15 and the limited racing and photography make it worth it. By the time you get a perfect shot of your Supra at Sarthe, COVID-20 will be out.

Batman Arkham Knight, Spiderman, God of War, Uncharted 4, Last of Us are all auto buys. Get the GotY versions for the DLC. GoW's story though

What sort of genres do you like, M? But, Bloodborne is a good one as are the Uncharted series. The Lara Croft games are also worth checking out. And yeah, GT Sport is worth considering but you may get stuck like me once the F-1500t series hits, LOL.

Oh, God of War and Son is good. And yeah, MGS is a great pick-up. The Capcom Beat 'Em Up release is awesome side-scrolling retro goodness. I would also recommend some of the side-scrolling shooting games (a la Gradius) that are out like Raiden.

Mizouse 03-30-2020 10:21 AM

i dunno im all over the place when it comes to games.

I see that they have a new version of hotshots golf (now going by the original name Everybody's Golf). I'll probably pick that up. I played the shit out of that on PS2 and PS3

Well, I'd start with 2-4 games. Get something a bit different each...my choices would be:

- Capcom Beat 'Em Up
- MGS
- Raiden V
- Your choice (Bloodborne, Uncharted, GoW, Tomb Raider)

Mizouse 03-30-2020 10:57 AM

I could probably skip the capcom game. I do have the NES Classic, SNES Classic, Sega Genesis Classic and PS Classic :tomato:

Im sure some of those fighting games are in it. I know at least streets of rage is. :boxing:

Your call. It has some great side-scrolling quarter-munchers from our youth like Final Fight, Knights of the Round, and etc. Look it up before you decide to put it in your reject pile, sir.
