Sold the 360...But picked up a PS3!!
Yeah baby! So basically, I got a 360 Pro for Christmas, with the intention of buying the HD-DVD drive. Well, with the BS going on between BluRay and HD-DVD, it looked like the better choice (in the long run) was to switch to a PS3, and now was the best time to do it. I ended up selling the 360 just the other day, and I FINALLY found a good deal on a PS3 just today that I pulled the trigger on. It's a barely used 20gb PS3 with HDMI, therefore it's backwards compatible, which I got for $325 shipped. I am SO stoked right now, you have no idea. I can't wait to watch BluRay movies, let alone play some awesome games.
Anyways, I ended up exchanging a couple games I got for my 360 from christmas to get some PS3 games. I picked up Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six: Vegas, and Call of Duty 4. However, I'm curious as to whether I should return Vegas so that I can get Vegas 2 when it comes out. Also, someone mentioned that Assassin's Creed is a little buggy on PS3, is that true? If you can give me a few recommendations towards those, that would be great. I definitely want to keep COD4, but I can return the other two if they're not that great and just wait to pick up a couple of other new games when they come out.
Now that I'm going to be a new PS3 owner, I would love to have some people give me tips and advice for it. Just a few things for thought:
1) If I want to get another controller, is the Sixaxis better than say the Logitech? Also, is the DualShock supposed to be coming out soon, and what is better about this than the regular controller?
2) Which remote would you recommend for the BluRay player?
3) Any must have accessories?
4) From what I know, external HD's cannot be used to save game data, correct? I have a 250gb external drive which I can use for all my personal files, such as videos/music/etc..., but how much HD space do you think I'll need just for game data? Is it necessary to upgrade the HD basically if I will use an external for everything else?
Sorry for all the random questions, I'm just really excited right now
!! Thanks in advance for your guys' input.

ass. creed is overrated IMO. Vegas is worth having. COD 4 is like crack, so get ready. Siaxxis is the best hands down. 2nd party never compares to manuf. or at least that's what ive read/ and from personal exp.
not sure on the remote.
Headset/blue tooth is a good accessory to have for multiplayer games.
Not sure on the HD question.

the dualshock 3 that is coming out, i think in march?
it has the vibration that the sixaxis controller does not have.
because it has the vibration its a heavier feeling controller that many people prefer because the sixaxis feels way too damn light.

blu-ray is going to be a flop just like UMD movies.

The fact is, no one knows how the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray war is going to pan out. Even if one eventually comes out on top, that may not be for a couple of years. Whatever happens, I'm prepared. I have both.
Damn, sorry to hear that. Personally, I buy my systems on the merit of the system itself, not the player.
However, the good news is that you got a free game system with your Blu-Ray player!!

For the remote I use the Sony Bluetooth "BD-DVD" Remote
Accessories.. I don't have any yet
For the HD, Western Digital makes an external 250GB PS3 HDD - I would assume it's just a USB drive and not anything special, best you can do is try and plug it in and see if the system recognizes it
AznX TL - Odds are, if someone knows what an HD-DVD is, they know what a Blu-Ray Disc is, because the things are sitting right next to each other in 99% of the stores I goto.
Blu-Ray will most likely not flop, especially since Warner has gone BD exclusive, and Paramounts contract, which was secure pending Warner remained part of the deal, is now broken and they can leave if they desire [an official announcement was said to be made in the next 30 days].
As far as BD-Players, they are still fairly pricey, though no where near the $999.99 price when they first came out ($350 now), the PS3 is the best bet. I paid $499 for my 80GB PS3 @ christmas, but it also came with 15 movies [Roughly $30 per BD movie x 15 = $450~]. Blu-Ray will also be going to v2.0, enabling interactive web content, which sucks for older players, but PS3 owners just need a software upgrade.. So really, the PS3 is a great solution - you get the ability to play media from your computer, play HD games, play online, browse the net, and watch hi-def movies.... Lovin' mine!

360 owner here, and I currently have 22 HD DVD movies and +10 exlusive Universal/paramount movies on their way. I love my system.
As for game playing, there is nothing like the 360. From the games to the online game playing. I don't mind paying the premium on my xbox live over the PSN. It's just not the same on the PS3.
I will be getting the PS3, hopefully sooner than later. I'm really hoping for that price drop @ a price of $299 and possibly in white if comes over to the states
ps. the only reason I'm getting the PS3 is for the Blu-ray. (and I heard they play games too).

tell me how the ONLINE GAME PLAY is different on the 360 then it is on the PS3
I play both frequently.....once you are in a game, it's all the same.
360 Live is better w/ the selection of games/movies, etc But once in the game, i notice no difference

i like ps3 online over XBL........atleast you dont have to pay friggin $40 a yr and dont have problems with your router ports being partially opened.
right now im only gonna pick up ps3 for gran turismo 5, theres nothing really that exclusive to ps3, its been almost 2 years and exclusive game selection is weak compared to 360's.

Well, I'm not a huge gamer, and for the few games that PS3 has, I am interested in several of them, so that doesn't bother me. Plus there are quite a few good titles coming out soon, so I'm not too worried. The fact that it has an upgradeable BluRay player was basically the deal sealer for me. Not to mention it's a great machine. I'm sure I'll enjoy it, and I can always but a 360 down the road. My main priority was to get into HD movies, and this was the best bet for me. Thanks everyone for the support/comments thus far!
well you know how it goes...smart people think alike
Seriously though, the PS3 is the smarter choice at this point in time, and IF I decide to become a gamer (which I don't find happening any time soon), I can pick up the 360 down the road like I mentioned. Plus I heard that they're going to revamp the 360, so I could just wait until then.

I've got a few more questions that I thought of...
1) Does it up-convert PS1/2 games to 1080p as well? Or do they look the same as regular PS2 games? Also, I'm assuming it up-converts regular DVDs to 1080p, correct?
2) The 20gb model's firmware can also be upgraded, right?
I wish I still had all my PS2 shit, but that stuff is all gone so I have to start from scratch

Really? Damn that sucks. I was kinda hoping it would look pretty decent. Also, I think I made a thread about this, but I'm too lazy to search. Have any of you used Gameznflix.com?
if sony would just fine tune their online experience a lil better but keep it free - i would be set for life
heres the thing, on PS3 i f*cking hate having to remember people's usernames to add them @ the home screen, pisses me off
same w/ no messaging while in a game, music, etc
xbox online CAPABILITIES w/ ps3 functionality and im set

I finally bought the PS3 today along with COD4. Now I gotta get a LCD HDTV to maximize it's potential. I don't know why I waited this long to pick up the PS3. Been mainly a Sony fan. Time to get back to playing video games and less time on AZine.

I expected to play 1-2 games a year, I think I have 7 now. Don't regret my decision at all, there has never been a time I wanted a game for 360 that I couldn't get on the PS3. (Maybe halo, but seems that game was a bust for most that owned it)
Well one other game that interests me that is currently NOT on the PS3 is BioShock. Hopefully they add that to the PS3 lineup, because that would be great. Thanks clpower.

PGR4 was extremely lame to me. Forza was cool, but i'm a GT series lover
