RRoD.
4 years later, my first Gen Xbox 360 has the red ring of death
which begs the question, to buy a premium system or not to buy a premium system.
so many things to buy, so little money....

as you can see I went overboard, but I went for completely bulletproof, and it's an 06' first gen model. I probably wont throw it out unless it explodes or kills one of my pets, either isn't likely.

What can I say, once you get your hands on a flawless motherboard for close to free, it it a good idea to make sure it can't red ring, since it never had before. I'll have to post some pics sometime of this new board compared to my old board. Looks like I was frying eggs on it. MS definitely f'ed this console up time and time again, and dont believe for a second that they've now fixed the problems.

it's not worth the $100. Are you mechanically inclined? because the repair is a leisurely 2hr job, that costs roughly $20. I personally wouldn't ever buy one brand new again, unless I had the money readily available and had exhausted all my ideas. The damn things are pretty resilient. You just have to modify a few things and that's it, you dont need to makes yours into a freak like mine. It's pretty simple.

I could hook it up to my toilet, that would seem more fitting for an xbox. Ah yes it's shit cooled, it runs like shit and was designed like shit so, I figured..

Ah, my bad. Upon closer inspection, I see that there are rocks in there that made the water look brown.
Also, for some reason before, I thought there was blue, red and yellow stuff floating in the water. Now when I look at it I realize the blue gravel is on the bottom and the red and yellow stuff is behind the container.
I think it must be my LCD on my laptop...

It's ok, you actually spurred on a bit of a makeover. For the longest time, the 360 was a work in progress, which kept me from finishing it off better. Now seeing as it has been working great for 3months now, it's safe to go and make it look nicer.
First thing, I just got sand, so I am replacing that gravel, and then I'm either lifting the tank up on a stand or building a false floor, to make the tank really look like a goldfish pond. Either way even though false criticism, it did get me to think about the setup a bit.
Since this setup is new to some folks I'll mention I do have a radiator as well in case the tank gets too warm for the fish. Kind of gives the reservoir a dual purpose keeping fish as well. Instead of just having this giant res sitting around. I'll post some more pics when I finish or come close to finishing the makeover.

I was hoping that if a system made it past a certain point, the RRoD was almost a non-issue.
I've had mine for right at 3 years. Crossing my fingers I never have to deal with the RRoD.

It is the actually rrod right? quadrants 1,3 and 4 should be lit, no audio/video, completely dead? If so use that tutorial.
The exact hardware required can be found at Lowes. The thermal paste can be found at Radioshack. Lastly you don't need special tools to open up the case as they show. An ice pic will work fine for the clips. Only other thing is the torx bits, but you only need two bits, also found at Lowes.
Oh, and an update, it's starting to look like a cleaner setup. If anyone's wondering why things look the way they do. I used two CPU heat sinks for both the GPU and CPU, which required the DVD drive to be external. I also found putting the water block on top of the heat sinks provided the best cooling, so hence the hole in the top. I've also heard of many power brick failures, so I went ahead and slapped a heat sink on the that as well.
