RollerCoaster Tycoon 3
RollerCoaster Tycoon 3
Anyone else playing this one? I picked it up the other day and its chock full of good ol fashioned family entertainment. Needed a break from all the violence in the other games.
I was a fan of these types of games going back to Theme Park in the mid to late 90’s.
They totally upgraded the graphics and user interface with everything being in 3D now. Looks amazing:
(all in game shots)

The best part about the game though is the feature called "Coaster Cam" that allows you to personally ride ANY attraction in the park you want. From roller coasters that you can build to the bumper boats and even the ferris wheel or graviton. And it’s just like you were a visitor in your own park. While going up the chain on a coaster you can look to the left and right and see your entire park just as you designed it. All in real time:

After awhile I actually felt nauseous after going on some of my own rides:

Also with the day and night cycle you can now make your own fireworks displays that you can set to music. Even music imported from outside the game.

There’s lots of micromanaging too. From making people pay for use of the toilets to how much cheese or chili you want to put on the hot dogs. If any at all. Also you have to manage a park staff to keep everything flowing right. There’s a career mode as well as a sandbox mode where you start off with a flat plain of land, unlimited money, all the rides and non of the worries of things that happen in career mode.
It will chew up many slow, medium and even some fast computers, especially with the details set to high. You can do some tweaking to make the game playable and speed it up a bit.
Overall its real entertaining game and its worth a look. It’s actually been out for a few weeks now but they released a patch to make that fixed an enormous amount of bugs and glitches. It’s tough to play the game without it.
