The title would be different for the remake, due to the PS4 exclusivity, so somewhat... misleading? Hmm.

Came in ... yesterday.
Kind of funny, the deluxe version says it includes a steel case. And it quite literally includes a steel case. An empty steel case in addition to the standard plastic PS4 case

The Japanese are ...that's all I can say to their quirks.
But, yeah...get going on the game bud. It's great. I'm just on Chapter 9 right now...making my way through some tunnels with Aerith.

So, what's the impression as compared to the original?
Still need to invest in a PS4, maybe they'll start getting cheap with the impending PS5 & I can snag a PS4 Pro for :thief:

The remake borrows from the FF7 of our youth and so, the characters are the same as is the base story but the action is more like a 3rd-person game -- albeit nerfed in regards to the action. So, when you're not fighting, your controls are basically just moving on a linear plane and you can't really jump unless you interact with an object that requires a different action than the walking/running (i.e. climbing, opening door/chest). The fighting is where the biggest difference is...it's very action-oriented and so, nothing like the turn-based style you will remember.
Graphics are gorgeous as is the soundtrack that is based on the themes from the original.
This differences though are not unpleasant and in its own right, this game is wonderful. At least I'm loving it so far. Some may complain it is too linear but I do not mind it. And yeah, Tifa can Final Fantasy me, anyday.

...and oh, the ability to play the game with a Japanese audio setting is what makes it amazing. So, all the characters are speaking Japanese and you'd just get your translation via captions...

Thanks. As long as it's not the super limited linearity of FF XIII it'll be on my list when I get around to picking up a PS4...

It's very linear TBH...you have side-quests you can bypass but other than that, where you go next is pretty pre-determined. So, I want to set your expectations clear on that.

That was the big complaint with XIII, you had to pretty much un-deviated follow the story for 50-60% of it, made a few bosses tough, as there wasn't much opportunity to beef up.

I do absolutely love the game though. The music, graphics, dialogue (in Japanese), and even fighting system that I'm now very used to, all just work great. I mean, sure...I'm likely biased because of my feelings for the FF7 series to start with given its impact on me...so, take that into consideration RE: my impressions of the game.

Wrapped it up last night on my first finish...will replay it again to go after things I missed on my first walkthrough.
Fantastic game. The last stage was quite the experience. And again, the voice acting (in Japanese) and music is just top notch.

Must be mentioned that on Hard Mode, the enemies are insanity. Not having the ability to recharge MP easily or use items is crazy tough.

Hell House on Hard Mode is insanity...Took 4 tries to take it out and I barely beat it -- running basically on fumes for MP when it finally went down.

Finished on Hard Mode.
It looks like I'm also 10% off from getting all trophies...not sure if I will be able to as I just got the shipment notification for LoU2.
I did manage to get all the manuscripts and for those who are playing this game (seems like just moi ), the Gotterdammerung is a must-have IMO in order to finish the game...the last few bosses from Rufus to well, you know-who-who sorta need the abilities that the item gives.

Cool! So, I need to re-read this and make sure my lightbulb is switched on properly...
I OWN the PS4 version so, that means, if I buy Intergrade (the add-on only), my FF7R automatically gets upgraded to PS5 format?

Ah okay...yeah, I have it correct. Whew.

Square made the announcement as part of today’s State of Play Sony event. The new PS5 version, called Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, is coming out on June 10. If you already own the PS4 version, you’ll be able to upgrade to the PS5 update for free. Save data will carry over. The new episode, however, will be “available for purchase after upgrading to the PlayStation 5 version,” which makes it sound like it will not be free or available to PS4 users.

Wait. From my reading of the Kotaku, upgrading to PS5 version is free.
but if you want Intergrade you have to pay.
not bad. I wonder what PS5 improvements there are? Ray traced Tifa boobie shadows?
