PS3: HKS Racing Controller

The hot-coal red Hipermax III replaces the analog joysticks with a thumb wheel on the left side and throttle and brake buttons on the right side. The wheel has center stripe to aid steering, and the precise inputs of the throttle and brake controls are registered in the digital readout in the center of the controller. For the moment this is PS3-only, and while HKS hasn't released a price, it's pegged to come under $55.

Apparently the design is inspired from the CT230R.

Looks interesting. While I like my wheel sometimes it's nice to have something that you can easily pick up and play with, but still have fine control.

One of my favorite pc controllers was basically a pistol grip rc remote with a serial cable coming out the bottom. I picked it up for like 10 dollars in a bargain bin too, I wish I could find one for my consoles.

Sounds good in theory, but I'd like to see it in action. Can the left thumb really rotate the wheel? Thumbs are good for left/right and up/down motions, but not circular.

The way I saw it is it isn't really a wheel, It's just 1 axis of a 2 axis joy stick. Like a trim adjustment on a flight stick.

That makes sense. The description is a bit misleading.
