PS3 download speed slow Wired or Wireless

Both my ps3 download speeds are slow with wireless and with an ethernet cable connected. Using speedtest.net, i get 500 download, 1500 upload. With my PC i get 2500 download, 1700 upload. It is connected to a router. I dont know what to do. If any 1 can please help me out i would appreciate it. thanks!

Try taking out the router. That's your problem.

My download speed was 3931 kbps without a router, and 2306 kbps with a router.

In the settings for the PS3, see what the flux capacitor is set at. Post here.

Did you check the fluid level in the router? I've had it go low on me without even knowing. I thought they were maintenance free! Well they arent.

Anyways, yeah check the fluid level, I'm 90% sure that's your problem since most people overlook this.

Believe me dude, it took me hours to figure out when my speeds suddenly dropped. Everyone was telling me to power cycle the router, upgrade firmware and other silly nonsense that didn't even work.

Then I pulled out the fluid level "dipstick" on the back of the router (looks like an antenna, buts its not) and noticed it was nearly dry! They are a bit tough to pull off, but you have to give it a few good tugs straight out (Do not unscrew) and you can see the level clearly.

This is EXACTLY what worked for me as well! OP, take heed. Willdogs is our resident IT specialist (hardware).

Yeah make sure you use the synthetic fluid too cause it was designed just for routers.

Stogie which router do you have and which fluid did you use? I heard it really doesn't matter but I played it safe. Since I have a linksys router, I stuck with the Linksys fluid. It was a bit more pricey but I wasn't taking any chances since I heard using the wrong fluid might cancel the warranty with Linksys.
If it was out of warranty I wouldn't care, but its less than a year old.

Arram which router do you use?

I wouldn't use synthetic until you have at least 10,000hrs of use or more than 10 TB downloaded. Whichever comes first.

Using synthetic on a newer router (especially right out of the box) can cause the fluid to leak a bit since it's a bit thinner. This will definitely cause your speeds to fluctuate like crazy! You definitely don't want to be lagging during gaming especially on the PS3.

I use linksys routers and fluid as well, but sine I am running DDWRT, I have to mix in some WRT remover.

Arram

After a bit of searching I found a pic that I sent a friend in your situation. Here is a picture of my linksys router.

The Right Antenna is the ACTUAL antenna (note it is closest to the power cord). The one on the left is not really an antenna but is the fluid check stick (forgot the actual name). Make sure you give it a good pull or two. Should pop right out. If it gives you any problems make sure you spray a bit of WD-40 on it.

(Note) If your router only has one antenna, these models are Air Cooled and do not use fluid!! So dont try to pull the antenna off of it!! Rather you will need to check the PSI of the air in your router. Let me know which one you have so I can better assist!

In all seriousness, I think it is the router. Just use the cable modem or whatever, and not the router. I really believe it's the router.

Plug it directly into the modem and see if it changes. If it does you know its the router.
