Project Mac Mini....G4 Edition...Now MUCH faster than before
Project Mac Mini....G4 Edition...Now MUCH faster than before
I recently came across a Mac Mini over the summer and thought to myself that since my girlfriend really needs a computer and has a liking to Macs, it'd be great to build it up as far as I can take it in the short term......
Here goes:
Stats
-Mac Mini G4 1.33Ghz Processor
-LG W1952TQ 19" LCD ( 10000:1 contrast ratio, 2ms response time, sweet picture)
- 1GB OCZ PC3200 Ram 400Mhz ( the secret weapon literally...)
^ ^This maxed out the system RAM capability so I made sure I got the best stick of Ram out there....These chips have a timing of 2-3-2-5!!!
- WD 250GB 2.5 Hard Drive ( that's very quiet and quick if I may add )
-Bluetooth and Wifi Adapters are on the way via Ebay in the next day or so since this unit didn't have them preinstalled
-Apple Thin Aluminum Keyboard (the 50.00 one)
- Inland Laser Mouse
-Logitech 2.1 Audio system ( for small desk space)
-Mac OS X 10.5.4 Leopard OS
-Microsoft Office 2008
-iLife 08
-Roxio Toast Titanium 9
The bottom line...cliffs etc....
The system flies now! The OCZ ram is the killer upgrade along with the Western Digital HD running at 5400 RPM ( feels like 7200 or more). The system runs very quick and will be perfect for her web browsing, work usage etc.
All in all wish it was for me now. I'm starting to fall in love with it since its been a nice little mini project for the past couple weeks but you know what, it'll be a nice gift for our anniversary which is coming up in 2 weeks
The second bottom line, if you have a Mac Mini G4 and want to give it some pep, feel free to try out some of the upgrades I used above
Let me know if you want me to post the individual prices
Total cost was 400 including the cost of the Mac Mini itself
All in all I think she's (girlfriend) is worth it. Its been 2 years and I think she's earned it haha
