OSX on a PC rig?

I'm looking to build a (proper) OSX friendly machine and triple boot with Win7 and Ubuntu. My current desktop does it but the drivers are a little iffy with networking.

FYI, I've been doing this off and on for a couple years now. Am I the only one this crazy?

you're not the only one. I've been trying on and off for the past few years and I've got it installed but it never works well or at all. In fact I was trying again a couple days ago. using these guides and of course couldn't get it working

I was trying to do the vanilla kernel though. but it might work since they say 10.6.3 adds support for my core i7 860 processor but think it's cause I have my Intel sata controller set to RAID and not AHCI. I'll mess with it more.

I have a 15" MBP so no real need to do this but I got a spare drive lying around so I figured, why not?

Yeah you have to do AHCI for it to install properly. I think TonyMac put that in his list.

iBoot + Multibeast is just awesome.

I think I got it working! I can now boot from hard drive and I'm using the vanilla kernel! I'm running multibeast again to install drivers, I hope everything works afterwards

I'm reporting in from my new hackintosh! Now the big test! I've installed the JMicron drivers to enable my extra sata port so now I'm going to move my OS X drive from my Intel Sata chip to the JMicron one and then reenable RAID on my Intel chip, it should work. Here I go......

OH and Holy Shit this was WAAAAYY easier than it used to be!! MultiBeast FTMFW!!!

It worked! And now I'm not getting the annoying pop ups for my other NTFS disks everytime I boot into OS X cause it doesn't see them at all now since it doesn't support Intel RAID, double WIN!

Now my only problem is audio. It's weird when I first installed OS X I HAD audio, I listened to the opening video and everything was great I even had working network too, everything worked! But then I ran multibeast and restarted and then nothing worked. So ran MB again and installed the drivers for my network, audio (Legacy ALC889 and HDA enabler) and graphics and then my network worked again but still no audio. However when I look in system profiler it sees my Intel audio device but when I go to audio in system preferences it says I don't have an audio output device. Weird. Ideas?

I did the smbios.plist hack to make my desktop appear as the newest version MBP which then allowed me to install the iLife '09 that came with my MBP onto my hackintosh.

I still can't get my audio working and my ethernet has become intermittent and if I reboot it doesn't always work and I have to run MB again to renable it.

I found a DSDT file for my motherboard but I couldn't install it for some reason....

FYI, my OS X has kernel panics and won't boot anymore! I think something got screwed up while I was trying to fix the audio issues. I reinstall later.

I'm using a different hard drive

Got a new i5 760, board and 4 gigs of ram last night, now I'm ready! The directions look incredibly simple, but there's one thing missing. After you get it all installed and running, how do you set up the multiboot?

Okay, I didn't realize that's what enabled you to boot from the hard drive. And it sets up everything so I can select which OS I want to boot from? Sorry for the newb questions, I know almost nothing about Mac, which is why I'm so excited about this. I need to learn them.

Check out this forum for how-to's, otherwise I'm just paraphrasing what has been said on there. http://www.tonymacx86.com/

Tony's instructions are great, but they forgot one minor thing. Tore my hair out last night trying to get Snow Leopard installed. Could get the machine to boot off the iBoot disc, but whenever I ejected the disc and dropped in the install disc and hit enter it would crash on me. Been looking over his forums this morning and everyone mentions hitting F5 after you do that before you hit enter to boot the disc. Will try that when I get home.

i posted about this in another osx86 thread. i was one of the first guys on osx86 to build a completely compatible rig with a p4 processor. it ran flawlessly for 5 years until the hard drive crashed.

kernel panics are caused by improper kexts being installed.

Its alive! And totally functional from what I can tell. I have sound, network, both monitors. It recognizes my i5 processor and 4 gigs of DDR3. And it flies. Just got all my drives hooked back up this morning and set up Win 7 for AHCI. I don't have a boot loader set up yet so its defaulting to Win 7 and if I want to get into Snow Leopard I have to hit F8 at post to get the bios boot device list. That's tomorrow's project.
