oh no XBOX 360 is freezing
oh no XBOX 360 is freezing
WTF!!!!!
$300, best machine ever
but mine is starting to freeze on me,
like when i play oblivion and i come to random areas where the graphics are very demanding, my system will totally freeze, a few times i've gotten a error message "disc is not readable"
its not a big deal but the system is pretty damn new (2 months) so what is it gonna be like in two years???? my PS2 lasted for damn near 6 years before it started doing that kind of stuff.

Is it just with oblivion or with every game.
If it's every game I beleive your still within the 90 day warranty and they should fix or replace yours.
If it is just that game, I have had that problem with bad xbox disks, and the people you bought it from should exchange it.

No biggie man. Just like anything else. Its not perfect. Sorry for the incovinience and lets exchange it for another one. Call MS and they will take care of you.
And I think its funny when someone is just waiting for this to happen to someone so they can bash it. lol.. ahahaha
NOTHING IN THIS WORLD IS PERFECT,. there are the lucky ones and then there's the rest of us.
Hope you get it fixed, I hope its just Oblivion.

So you got a core unit? Maybe for the sale they might let you exchange it. But I think if not you will have to send back to Microsoft. Good luck, let us know what they say.

Don't know if this will fix your problem:
Q: I am experiencing long loading times, slowdowns, or sluggish menus in Oblivion on the Xbox 360.
A: Oblivion uses the Xbox 360 hard drive extensively to cache (copy and reuse) game data. This is done to optimize all loading the game does. It has been found in rare cases on some Xbox 360s that the cached data can get overly fragmented. This exhibits itself by the game taking a long time to load anything from menus, dialogue, sounds, objects, levels, and more.
To solve this problem, reset your Xbox, and hold down the A button as the game is booting up. If any button is held while Oblivion is loading, it will clear its hard drive cache, and create a new one. Once you see the “Bethesda Softworks” logo video, the game is already loaded, and the cache should have been cleared.
Note, this does not effect your game in any way other than loading. You will not lose any saved data.
If the problem still occurs, try the following troubleshooting steps from Microsoft:
1. Restart the console.
2. Determine whether the issue has occurred more than one time. If this case is the first time that you have experienced this behavior, the issue may not occur again.
3. Determine whether the Xbox 360 console is overheating. Make sure that the console is not in a poorly ventilated environment or near a heat source. Heat sources include TVs, computers, monitors, and other electrical devices. If the Xbox 360 console is in a poorly ventilated location, move it to a location that has sufficient ventilation, such as on top of a table or on the floor. If the issue is resolved, the previous location likely did not provide sufficient ventilation for the Xbox 360 console to correctly function. View the Xbox 360 instruction manual for information about correct placement of the console.
4. Make sure that the Xbox 360 console is set to the correct time and date.
5. Remove all unnecessary peripherals, and then test to see whether the problem still occurs.
6. Determine whether the disc that you are using is the cause of the issue by testing several similar Xbox 360-compatible discs in the console. If the problem occurs with only one disc, search the Microsoft Knowledge Base to determine whether the particular disc has any known issues. Use a disc of the same type, such as a game disc, a DVD movie, or a music CD, to test whether the problem is the specific disc.
7. Consider exchanging the disk or try the game in a different Xbox 360.
8. If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact Xbox Customer Service. To obtain support in the US, Canada, or Puerto Rico for the Xbox, please call 1-800-4MY-XBOX (469-9269).

fanboy? just because I like nintendo, doesn't make that my reason for disliking the 360. I own an xbox and have had plenty of fun with it, but that has had it's share of problems too, lots of disc read errors, problems connecting to xbox live, and several crashes when I play for long periods of time.
of course yours hasn't had any problems. You watch movies alot, and that puts little to no stress on the processors, so that's not a very good example.
If reliability has to be sacrificed for a "cheap" system that has great graphics, I say fuck that. I'll get it, but not till it's cheaper/more reliable.

Like I said...only proof is your an idiot. All you've done is bash almost every system spoken of on here. If nothing impresses you why dont you disappear...maybe go make something that does.
I was one of the lucky ones that got the 360 on the release day... (I was picked in a lottery at Costco... they had 24 to sell... I think about 200 people in line...), anyway, I don't have any problems with mine... but then again, I don't play it all that much... I go through phases... depends what new game I'm into...
...but anyway, there's a point to all this... I was at Costco returning something... I kinda know the girl that was helping me at customer service, she looked up my membership because I didn't have a reciept (btw, I wasn't returnig anything related to the XBox), she noticed that I had purchased my XBox 360 at Costco... just out of conversation, she asked me if I have any problems with it... and I said "no"... she then told me that they've gotten back a few returns from those first batch of 360's... cause of the freezing issue... but she said it like it was fine if I did... cause I can just return it... which is a relief to know...
..oh, and btw, if you have a Costco membership... but did NOT buy your 360 there (or anything else pricy for that matter), I wouldn't attempt to return it there... cause apparently they do keep track of what you buy and return...

topspin2? yeah that's really hard on the system.

And wait til you get the 600 Sony and all the issues its bound to have.
Playing a game for 4-5 hours straight is still keeping the system on and running. It might not be as resource intensive, but so what. Didnt have that issue with Ghost Recon when I first bought that. Nor Call of Duty2. Never had an issue. Luck of the draw.
You're talking $400 for a computer and stability. Think about that...$2000 windows machines that cant keep a leg to stand on...Its all relative.

I had my system for damn near 6 months only froze once. I got the 3 rings of death and a green ring one time so i turned it off and turned back on and it worked fine. Depends some people just suck with video game systems.

I guess I'm just picky becuase I've been lucky enough to have all the consoles I've gotten from anyone be stable, except my xbox. Maybe just a wierd coincidence?

I still think the graphics of the 360 are great, so that's not a question. I just remember buying an HP computer years ago and it fried just as the warrany ran out. I was so pissed. I just don't want that shit happening to a $400 investment I got to have FUN with. Which is exaclyt why I am waiting. I'm sure by thanksgiving they will have 98% of the bugs ironed out, maybe even use better components that will keep the system more stable.

Everybody I know that plays oblivion has freeze ups. I have a home made forced air induction in my entertainment cabinet, and it stays 80 degrees in there. Never a single lock up, regardless of how long I play.

exactly what I'm talking about. Just like it's not a good idea to buy a first year car model.
