New Television for GAMING.. Advise needed
Okay guys.. my 32 inch Sony is over 5 years old and has seen better days. (I think the picture tube is pooping itself/ discoloring in top corner)
I am looking for an kick ass set-up. Bigger than a 32 but not higher than 50 inch.
LCD, rear projection, HDTV ready..I
else to look for..
No PLASMA's... they are not good for gaming
Price: $1500-3500...
Thanks in advance.

...so, I have a Samsung DLP 50" in the living room, and a Philips 30" flat panel LCD in my room, I heard that there were some problems with gaming with DLP's especially with Samsungs.... do you guys think I'm better off with my Philips?
I do plan on getting the 360, btw
are "burn in's" common with LCD's

See this pic for an example interface of what can burn in:

Static images are still a problem, just not as much as they use to be.
Sorry, but with the 7th & 8th generation plasma panels out now, I think you guys are overly paranoid about games causing burn in. Either that or maybe you regularly play games for six hours at a time. The tiny amount of screen real estate that's static in most games is no worse than the crap most of the cable news channels have on their screens now.
BTW - My buddy plays X-Box on his plasma and we both agree it looks just fine so I don't thing there's anything inherently incompatible (such as refresh rates).

come back and tell us this in 5 years...
I sit for hours on end sometimes when I have time to kill (no pun intended)
I am just telling you what I have been told by some TV experts... I am by far a man of knowledge when it comes to TV's.

Most new (2004+) plasmas on NEW gaming systems (XBOX...) are relatively safe. But you still run a risk.
In XBOX, alot of games use translucent graphics, and game designers are more wary of the colors they use, brightness levels, etc.
Games like Halo are pretty safe for most televisions in the way they're designed.
However, most PS2 games still use alot of opaque static graphics with white text, etc. These burn in incredibly easy. On a CRT based RPTV you can burn it in on a PS2 game like SOCOM in as little as 16 hours of continual play.
On a NEW plasma, you really have to abuse it to burn it in, but it's still possible.
Personally, I prefer plasma over LCD for movies/tv. However, for gaming, I'd stick with an LCD.
Otherwise I'd go with a rear projection DLP (which I also prefer above LCD).

I have a 54" CRT based RPTV, but I fear burn in, so I'm most likely going to pick up a LCD HDTV for my gaming room. I'm thinking of either the 32" Samsung or Sony models. The 360 is going to put a nice dent in my wallet.
I have a new 50" Samsung DLP. Hooked up the Xbox right away and played Halo2. What I noticed is it seems like the TV was always just a hair behind what I wanted to do. If I panned right or left, it seemed like it was just a hair off. Not a lot, but enough to notice. Also, it takes a while to get used to going from a 27" CRT to a 50" DLP. I ended up not using the DLP for gaming. I now use my old 32" Sony XBR. Still amazed at how great the picture looks on that thing after 6 years.

I think I may need (want) a new TV soon as well. I have a 53 inch Sony HDTV that I bought back in 03. The new TV's out today make mine look like crap.

I don't know... but it's been brought up in two differnet threads, and on the other thread (can't find it right now but it was in AZ.com), the person that bought it up said that he had heard it else where too...
Hey, btw... did you get the 1080p DLP? I got mine last year, literally the week it came out... (50" pedistal), but I don't regret buying it so early... I've had plenty of great move experience since... and still loving it.
