Well curiosity got the best of me so decided to rent 2006 to see if they fixed the playoff bug, but they did not, see below.

According to the offical NFL Playoff system, in the wild card week, seed 6 plays seed 3 and seed 5 plays seed 4. For the divisional playoffs,
seed #1 would play the lowest remaining seed and seed #2 would play the highest remaining seed. However this does not appear to be the case with Madden 2006: Below is the NFC playoff teams seedings on a simulated season:

1. Eagles (12 - 4) east winner
2. Seahawks (11 - 5) west winner
3. Vikings (10 - 6) north winner
4. Falcons (9 - 7) south winner
5. Giants (10 - 6) WC #1
6. Packers (10 - 6) WC #2

Simulated Wild card results

6. Packers defeat 3. Vikings
4. Falcons defeat 5. Giants

Is is my understanding that based on these results, The divisonal playoff should look like this

6. Packers vs. 1. Eagles
4. Falcons vs. 2. Seahawks

However the Madden 06 video game came up with these matchups

6. Packers vs. 2. Seahawks
4. Falcons vs. 1. Eagles

Madden seems to be doing the matchups based on team record, rather than playoff seeding. This is clearly wrong.

Other than that the game look like a big improvement over 2003 which I am currently playing. I like the graphics, and the QB seems cumbersome but pretty fun. The controls are a bit confusing as well, but the overall feel of the game seems a lot better. I still probably won't buy it though. I just wish the game could have fixed that annoying playoff bug.
