Linux on PS3

I haven't done it but a should help. You'll be able to use a better browser, use word processing/spreadsheet programs, basically have your PS3 run like a cheap computer. I don't need it because of my needs and if I want to view pics/vids on my PC, I just use the remote program that I have.

Yeah the only benefits of running Linux on a PS3 is making it a cheap computer. The graphics capability is reduced but nearly everything else works properly.
You can use Ubuntu and a few other popular distros on it.

i am using yellow dog. the graphics are just readable. now that the latest ps3 firmware supports gmail properly, i almost never boot up the linux side lol.
id like to see someone run an encoding service on linux FTW i.e. there shouldnt be any reason that it can't rip/compress movies and put my quad core intel to shame hehe

I think you can buy a cheaper computer than a PS3 to run Linux.
