GTA on the other hand, is INCOMPERABLE....NO other game company has been able to copy-cat or even come CLOSE to the quality of the GTA series....its in a league of its own.
I spent 5 hours last night with the game, its everything that i was hoping for, and far far more. absolutely incredible...more on that later.
btw, i'm fucking retarded

your personal opinion of halo 1 is just that, your personal opinion...but the facts are that it does not appeal to as wide an audience as GTA...multiplayer or not, GTA San Andreas has far more depth, and far higher replay value than a first person shooter...you want to talk about mindless....thats the nature of first person shooters....run, shoot, pick up more ammo, run, jump, shoot......please.
im not saying i dont enjoy FPS games from time to time but in terms of replay value and depth, San Andreas has Halo 2 by the balls on that. the only places that halo 2 will be better than San Andreas will be graphics (obviously) and multiplayer support (as GTA never has had multiplayer)
beleive it or not, there are alot of people who play videogames out there who couldnt give 2 shits about multiplayer like you do. multiplayer does not = good game. it might mean its more fun in certain aspects, but it really boils down to what you are most into.

i believe halo 2 trumped GTA:SA by quite a large margin...setting release day records and all.
I've never been a big fan of the GTA series to begin with...tried SA...wasnt really down with it.

i agree with jim on one point.
i think GTA, long-run... will outsell Halo 2.
Halo 2 has alot of hype, and alot going for it. It is one of the few BIG TITLES on XBOX.
Theres alot of great g ames on XBOX... but none with the legacy of doeznes of PS2 titles... or Halo.
Long run, GTA will outsell Halo.

oh and btw... it is reported that estimated sales of GTA are 4.5 million units... or $225 million.
this, so far, is still greater than Halo.
Halo's first day sales of "100 million plus" includes "halo and related hardware" not just the game itself.
This means, Halo headsets, XBOX live subscriptions.. etc.
I think its safe to say, that by tuesday... GTA will have the upper hand in unit sales over Halo.

I love Halo 2 folks. And I whole heartedly believe XBOX is a better console.
But GTA is a legendary game. And PS2 has the market share.

but well worth it
i heard halo had 1.6 or 1.7 million presales for the launch date!!!! at 50 bucks a pop thats pretty close to 100 million... and that was def a good move on the xbox marketing team.. see the thing about halo 2 is that the game price is not gunna drop for a while im sure unline the new gta. i mean it was still 50 bucks for halo 1 years after the game was released. im not trying to argue that halo2 will out sell gta by any means but it should be interesting to keep and eye on it...
I never doubted that GTA would outsell Halo 2...in fact it'll probably outsell Halo and Halo 2 combined a few times over. PS2's fanbase is just huge.

In my opinion, Halo 2 has much more of a replay value than GTA. What happens when you're done with GTA? With Halo 2, once you finish the campaign, you have endless hours of multiplayer gaming ahead of you. How about going through the campaign in co-operative mode? That's fun too. Also, Halo2 takes gaming to a level above GTA because of the online aspect.
He says that Halo requires no strategy and is mindless. That's absurd. I just finished the campaign on Heroic and it kicked my butt. You can't just go into a level with guns blazing and think that you'll make it out of there alive. Tons of strategy is also needed for the multiplayer games too such as Capture the Flag. How much strategy do you need to beat down a hooker?
Don't get me wrong, I know GTA is a great series. And I'm not trying to compare GTA to Halo2 like jimcol does - I was just trying to point out the fact that he loves to bash the xbox and it's games and was wondering when he was gonna chime in.
P.S. It's great that there's so many of you guys pickin up xboxes. can't wait to play online with you guys.

im impressed by the numbers thus far but i agree with everything soopa has aready said and acknowledge the "spin" being put on the sales figures by including sales of headsets, xbox live subscriptions, and hell, probably strategy guides as well are included in that.
i played halo 2 last night, it was fun, and it ran great and looked good, but its definately not a giant leap over halo 1 in terms of gameplay, graphics, sound....anything.....
its a solid follow up and a solid game but nothing jaw-dropping or amazing. the FPS genre is so over populated its disgusting. GTA is basically in its own genre as every copycat game that came out to compete with it has flat out sucked and not compared at all. any developer out there can put together a very good FPS.

seeing as there have been probably 2,000 FPS titles... and only 5-10 in all these years can be called GOOD.
i'd have to disagree

incompareable. two completely different categories.
both are great games.
GTA, for me... is the only entertaining single player game right now. Unfortunately, it lacks multiplayer.
Halo2, for me... demonstrates an extremely advanced multiplayer mode... far beyond anything else to ever hit a console. However, for me, i don't care ot play it single player.
Regardless of all that, they are two different categories of games. GTA is, well.. sorta a role playing game. Halo 2 is a pure FPS.
So in other words-- Don't be ghey.

GTA San andreas doesnt "lack" multiplayer, there are several segments in the game where you can play with a 2nd person. have you not encountered these circumstances yet? sure, its not like the game could be considered a fully multiplayer experience, but for GTA, its a step forward indeed to have ANY multiplayer support at all. the multiplayer parts are actually pretty fun, no less.
forgive me for asking because i simply dont know but what is it that is so great about the halo multiplayer experience that makes that multiplayer/online play so much better than say Socom 2...especially given your praise that it
"demonstrates an extremely advanced multiplayer mode... far beyond anything else to ever hit a console"
how can this be far beyond socom 2 in terms of multiplayer gaming??? and not just socom 2 but all of the other incredibly popular FPS games like Unreal Tournament, etc.

jim, yes i have played "2-player" in GTA, how do you think I got my dood to become gay?

however standard ol' 2-player does not fit into the multi-player ONLINE PLAY that i have been speaking of here.
nobody is knocking GTA, so don't bother defending it. I love the game. its great. end of story.
back to Halo, try reading some of the other threads here. or try it yourself.
a few of my favorite things:
1. The re-worked code allows for lag free online play in rooms of up to 16 people.
2. I play, on a wireless connection, in the same house as my little brother, at the same time... no lag... we both use mics... no problem.
3. Full duplex microphone... always-on... no button pressing needed.
4. The Clan System is spectacular. Clans of up to 100 people, I can voice message my clan members all at once or individually even if they are playing in single player mode. Additionally I can send them messages at BungieNet or XBOX.com. I can even get their game invites, friend messages directly to my cell phone.
5. "Optimatch" system. Makes it incredibly easy to find clan matches... simply get all my members in a party... click matchmaking... and bam... we have a match.
6. The entire interface is beautiful. Really have to try that one to take my word for it.
7. "GameViewer" and post-game statistics.

as for unreal, etc. those are PC games. as you quoted -- i noted CONSOLE gaming. not PC gaming.
even tho if we were to take it there -- unreals interface for online play sucks. though I actually prefer UT2k4 gameplay over Halo.

and since you brought up SOCOM, which was one of my favorite console games -- ever:
SOCOM problems, loading the game, getting online, getting into a lobby, and then into a room... was usually a 5-10 minute process.
HALO I am online INSTANTLY. The "connecting" screen is the only time during the whole process that you must WAIT for something to happen... and that screen usually takes under 5 seconds.
Additionally... there is no wait to join a party, no wait to start a game. As soon as you click start game -- your in the map playing. No "loading" BS.
SOCOM I could not play in the same house as my little brother, the lag was unbearable, two mics in one house does not work.
HALO... we both play, we can even play on the same xbox if we wish. Yesterday I played online with my little brother and my two cousins in the same house. All four of us had working mics... and no lag... despite team battling in 16-player games.
SOCOM... you had to hold a button to use a mic, and you could only talk for 5-6 seconds. additionally, nobody else could talk while your talking. Furthermore, you could not verbally communicate with ENEMIES while in game.
HALO... the mic is "proximity" based. Everyone can hear you... the closer they are to you... the louder you sound. Everyone can talk at the same time if they wish. You can even "tap" a button to use teamspeak-only and speak to your teamates no matter where on the map they are. You don't have to hold it... you simply tap it... and when it sense you have finished talking, you hear static and it goes back to proximity mode.
SOCOM..... LAAAAAG. Despite my love for the gameplay... I eventually stopped playing simply because the lag was unbearable. Beyond the in-game lag... the lag simply moving from screen to screen when trying to join a game. It could take half an hour before I started my PS2, got in a game, and got to play.
HALO... rarely lag. I've logged probably 100 hours already... and I've only entered one laggy game. A fluke. It only took me 10-15 seconds to leave that game, enter another, and start shooting again.
SOCOM... clans could only hold 16 players. Additionally it was nearly impossible to communicate with your clan if they were offline... or not in a game with you.
HALO... clans hold 100 players. I can speak to everyone online or offline with a simply click and some chatter into my mic.

And the coolest part is that I've logged 100+ hours and I still only KNOW 70% of the games features.
It just has too much cool shit tucked away inside. I just looked at the FAQ and feel like such a n00b cuz I didn't know half of it.

but the graphics are absolutely stunning. it is, visually, one of the most intense console games I have seen of late.
if they can inject a little bit of that into GTA it will be amazing.
