How could they just disappear? Try looking at "my recent documents."

Things don't just disappear. By disturbing do you mean pics that you disliked and subsequently deleted? Check the recycle bin.

Fireguy, first, stop using the computer. The more you do, the less likely you will retrieve deleted data.

Having said that, tell me exactly what the "picture program" was that you saw the images in, and also a general description of what the images were of.

Did the pics appear to be personal camera pics, MySpace pics, web porn pics?

Were they full sized or small sized?

Who else uses the computer and how much?

Yes deleted images can be recovered, but I am not certain you are dealing exactly with deleted images, hence the request for more info.

'sometimes' microsoft picture and fax viewer fails to clear it's cache, and upon opening a new picture, if you click back or forward you 'may' see a previously opened picture, however, successfully shutting down the program generally clears the cache, thus making it appear as though the image has disappeared.

ok i don't want to air out my marraige...long story short i think they were pics my wife took of her self and then sent them off to somebody and then deleted them so i would'ld know. I've been snopping around and found out some other stuff, just trying to build my case.
They came up when i uploaded new pics from my camera on my HP pics app, i looked in faststone and could'nt see them, i noticed a folder from the 21st that had been uploaded but there where no pics in there....so

No offense, but you are at a 1 out of 10 for detailed descriptiveness.

This can be a very specific issue, so if you really want to try to retrieve the images, you will need to be MUCH more specific in your descriptions.

For instance, you could provide a click by click description, in order, of what you did on the computer. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to bore everyone else.

OK, sorry for your marriage troubles, it appears our posts are overlapping, as you are now providing a bit more detail.

It appears that this computer is used by the both of you. In most states, it is perfectly legal to inspect and record computer activity on a computer used by others in your house, as long as it is also used by you. Having said that, I recommend you take a look at a program called Specter Pro.

http://www.spectorsoft.com/

For $99 you will be able to see EVERYTHING she does (from install and after) on the machine, with a minuscule chance of her finding out. Your other option is to send it to me and I will be able to tell you everything she has done (and you, too) on the computer UP TO right now. I cost much more than Spector Pro. Much more.

Again, feel free to PM with specific questions.

OK, STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD.

Step #1, place Darksom on your ignore list..... Your welcome.
Step #2, figure out why your wife is cheating on you.
Step #4, profit.

Let us know how this turns out. Both in terms for electronic forensics and the marriage. Sucks that you have to resort to this, but you have to do what it takes. Best of luck to you.
