Red face Having issues connecting the PS3 to the internet

Normally I dont ask these things since I can figure it out but this time im lost.

So I unplugged my Ethernet cable from my computer and connect it to my PS3. Which is connected to my comcast modem.

I enabled network settings on the PS3

I go through the menus and tried to set it up with everything automatic. When it went to test, it couldnt find the IP and timed out.

So i went in manual and put it all the info, IP, Default gatway, DNS Server...

Then went to test, found IP then tried to connect to the internet... that failed saying there was a DNS error.

Even tried cycling on and off the comcast Arris modem. What am i doing wrong here?

Cable modems generally have a limit to the number of different MACs that can connect. You might have to call Comcast and have the cache of MACs cleared before another device can connect.

oy, gotcha.

That would make sense since i even had issues hooking up a wireless router.

When that was hooked up, my PC that had a wired connection had low connection speed as well.

have you tried the ipconfig /release all then ipconfig /renew in the cmd box? I think thats supposed to clear that stuff up.

Depends on the configuration of the CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) at the cable provider. Most of them have a MAC address cache. My provider caches 3 MACs and if you try to hook up a device that's not in the list i have to call them to clear one out.
