Half Life & Counter Strike

for all you gamers... how do you play HL/CS???

now i use "wasd" on the keyboard and a mouse....

if anybody has had good experience with a particular pad or joystick let me know... i pretty comfortable with the keyboard, but i wanna know if a pad would be better...

also has anyone used this:

none of these gimicks are worth it, all the best players use just the mouse and keyboard, the best investment you can make is a set of headphones.

i use a logitech mx500 with the brass weight removed, and no mousepad, just a lot of table, and a rum of the mill keyboard, i have some mid line plantronics headphones that have served me well, it has a mic, but i rarely use it now that i no longer play competitively.

also lower your sensitivity, and get all 100 of those fps

You sir have been SOLD on marketing.

It' still an optical mouse, it's just ILLUMINATED with a laser.

And NO it's not better than an optical mouse. THey used a laser because it draws less current than the LED's to light up the surface.

Want a better mouse, go here... (and it's cheaper)
1ms response time (which blows the wireless away) and it's 1600DPI. (twice the resolution)

Whats funny is laser mice were out long ago... they needed special mouse pads to work though. I'm talking 14 years ago. They had mouse pads that looked holographic.

However the new laser mouse isn't laser accurate. It's just using the laser to light up the suface for the optical sensor to read

Differences between MX1000 and MX510:
wireless vs wired (i.e. worse for gaming)
laser illuminated vs. led illuminated.

$50

WCG = World Cyber Games

it's a tournament equivelant to CPL, but requires qualification.

There's a Pre-qual, and then the qual (USA semi final, local area)

Then the USA finals is usually in So. Cal.

Then grand finals in Korea....compete for quite a big prize.

www.worldcybergames.org i think....

Not necessarily....the MX700 registers just as fast as a wired mouse.

There are some wireless mouses like taht, that can compete at par with wired mice....just that they aren't as common.

I was gonna be a referee at WCG world finals in San Fran, but i couldn't afford to take the time off work. I was also going to the US qualifier for Need For Speed: Underground, but couldn't afford the time off then, either.

i have the hand control listed at the top. i use that and the mouse for playing halo.

though its a pain in the ass to have to switch from that to the keyboard if you want to type something in.

i'm in a privately owned dorm, 4 T1's hooked up into this building,

problem is, couple weeks ago-- had a huge virus infection, i'm betting 80% of the building has tons of viruses, i was getting about 30 virus blockings at 1:30am every night for about a week-- they had to find the sources of the problem, and toss it,

but now, they've limited bandwith on certain ports., or so it seems--
they've cut off certain ports completely--
we used to be able to use Itunes to listen to each other's music on the network- now we can't...
i also hear that the network won't let you host an xbox game on the network

blah.

for optical, the darker the better...i had a white desk at home and my mouse wouldnt register...likely being blinded by the reflection and the friction of the mouse sliding is comfortable for some people

meh, university virus protection is shitty

we used to be able to use Itunes,(oh well, i downloaded all the other people's good stuff anyways)-- and i'm not sure about the xbox, someone was telling me something about the network blah something not working, i didnt want to pay attention so i assumed that it just wasnt working with xbox (i dont care, i have ps2 and no network adapter anyway)

normal downloads are fine anywhere from 80kb/s-150kb/s for usual constant, i mean not as good as when i was at home when i'd get 300kb/s+ easily, but oh well. just wish gaming was better.. but that's probably better for classes anyways :P
