Half Life 2 - wow
Half Life 2 - wow
I just finished the game tonight....I've gotta say, it is probably the best computer game I have ever played....the gameplay is amazing (shooting, puzzles, and sheer variety of things you can do), the envionments are unbelievable in terms of their detail and interactivity, the story is interesting, the graphics top notch, I could go on and on.....
has anyoen else finished it? what did you think?

I agree. I don't what was with the people who were saying they were disappointed. Although I will admit I was disappointed with the final battle. I thought it was way too easy. I mean the actual fight, not the storyline part of the ending.
I will admit one thing though. I remember when playing the original HL, there were many times I sat there and thought "What the f*ck is that?!?!" I didn't really get that feeling in this game.

what do you mean? I never played the original, but playing this one makes me want to play the original. Will i be disapointed going back to the first one after playing this? Is the story line consistent between the first and the second?

If you've never played the first HL, then there's probably some minor story items and one-liners in HL2 story that you likely didn't pick up on. I don't remember any one specifically, but there were definitley several references back to HL1.
I can't really tell you what I meant in my comment without spoiling HL2 for those that haven't played it so I'm gonna hold off. I'd recommend playing HL1 if you never have. It will look pretty primitive but it's a great ride regardless.

I'm like 2 minutes from the end of the game. Haven't had time to reinstall it since i formatted though, WoW takes up all my time
HL2 is what all the Halo sackriders need to play. Halo is a pretty crappy FPS by comparison.

Half-Life 2 was very enjoyable. Excellent environments, fun moment, and very interactive. I liked the turrets, gravity gun, and the antlions (I had that "ultimate badass" feeling once I moved to the beach with my children).
However, I agree with a few other things. There didn't feel to be any REAL surprises. Like a previous poster said, "WTF was that". There was a lot more of the same. At times I also felt that I was battling the same enemy over and over (the soldiers). I think part of the feeling was being outdoors so much. In the original, you spent over half the game inside Black Mesa.
Oh, and the bridge jumping puzzle was tedious, along with the prison (place turrets and survive) and parts of Revnholm.
I think part of what was lacking was that you STARTED with a world that wasn't "right" or "normal". There already was the Combine, aliens, headcrabs, etc. The original basically stepped you from a normal world into one that was progressively strange and dangerous.

man i played for like 30 minutes and i got naucious(sp?) like fuck. I felt like throwing up seriously, i got all dizzy and stuff. Its wierd though because i dont have a problem playing Counter-strike source and Death match classic.
I started it, got past the cemetary with the russian and haven't had time to go back. I dunno how far in I am.
Like sixgear, I spend too much time playing CS:S.
And SeCsTaC, I got dizzy in one scene where you're riding the little fan boat thing. I've been playing FPS's since Wolfenstein3D, and haven't felt sick ever. For some reason I started feeling dizzy and a little sick so I just took a break and kept playing later. It's not happened again, but it sure was odd.

I thought the whole game was very simple. I played all HL games like Blue Shift and the logic is the same throughout. HL2 is no different. While the games was beautifully created, the over-all experience I had was, well... "That was easy." ...and yes, I played at the 2nd from highest difficulty setting. I still enjoyed it tho.
okay, so I got Half Life: Souce to try out the original now that I finished hl2. Even though they updated it with the source engine, and even though I can run it at a higher resolution (cuase it doesnt take up the same resources), it definitely looks like a rough version of hl2. I can see what people are saying about how nothing in hl2 was a "surprise" after playing the first, but imagine somone who hadn't played the first.....the second one seems amazing. The second one seems a lot like a smoothed over first (in terms of gameplay, worlds, etc)...which i am okay with

I agree that Half Life 2 has much better graphics, environments, and AI, but I think the storyline is a bit weak and for me it lacks in the fun department.
The things I like about Halo2 are the storyline, vehicles, online play and most of all, it is a fun game. Half Life 2 is a superior game in regards to technology, but it just doesn't feel as fun for me to play as Halo2. Its a hard thing to quantify, but I play both often and I just seem to enjoy Halo2 more. This is a personal choice, as both games are great.
im not sure why i just cant get into fps's like i used to, WoW ownz me. i finished the airship part of HL2 and i think i forgot to save and i just dont feel like going back and playing it
i also need a new vid card

I actually bought HL2:S for the sole purpose of playing Counterstrike:Source. I can't play HL2 anymore cause the zombie town freaks me out too much. O_O. Especialyl when you get to the part with the jumping fools.
. But until that point. It's been an awesome game.

I built a new computer over the weekend, and was playing hl2 practically the whole time...incredible game. The game play is just out of this world, and there is never a dull moment
Half-Life 2 wasn't as great as I expected. I guess I was expecting way too much out of the game since I've been waiting for its release since I saw the videos on IGN.
The simulation engine is purely amazing, the actual physics of the real world is immitated very well. The graphics are stunning and the game kept me on the edge for the most part.
I guess I was disappointed with the ease of the game, I played it on Hard mode and found only a few tricky situations that took 3-5 deaths to get through. The game storyline also felt a tad bit short to me in comparison to HL. The ending, I won't spoil it, but it wasn't what I expected... actually pretty much the last 4 levels was disappointing.
Also the variety of weapons could've been changed around a bit. I found myself using the shotgun for 70% of the game (ammo is way to easy to obtain) The autorifle was extremely inaccurate, and the more accurate combine rifle ran out of ammo way to fast. Magnum pistol and cross bow??? They're awesome, but I've only used them seldomly. And there are way too many redundant parts of the game where I have to launch 5-7 missles to frequently take down airships.
All in all I'd give it a 10 / 10 as far as graphics, sound, gameplay and I'd give it a 6/10 for difficulty and 8/10 for storyline.

actually i disagree...I think the weapons are well balanced, and having too many would have taken the focus off of the game and made into a more 'standard' fps
i agree with the ammo part...ammo and resources are very well spread out

some of you should have played the 1st game before you played this one...
hence you don't know the story...

You should play it, it's still a great game... just because it's not up to todays GFX standards doesn't mean it's not a good game.

Yes. He does the same in the frist game, "monitoring your progress". Where do you think the rebel memeber first got his rocket launcher?
Oh my God, I'm like 20 minutes into HL2 and all I can say is WOW...plain and simple. I can see why people are calling this Best game ever made...
But it's sooo laggy, seems like it's time to overclock...
