get my lag lower on CS
i notice when my latency is ~50 i fuckin OWN CS... problem is .... its usually @ 80-100+
i got windows xp w/ sp2
i disable my antivirus, autoupdate as well as the firewall...
my setup is gateway w/ 512 (dual channel)
p4 @ 3.0 ghz
radeon pci 9250 256mb videocard
im sure there are ways tweak the console and can somebody explain "ping" to me?!?!?
any suggestiuons would be greatly appriciated

ping, when u request something from somewhere it doest got straight to u...it hop from one server to another...from another computer to another computer...the lower the ping rate is the smoother ur connection is.

okay, there are three main commands that can control your bandwidth
In your console type
rate 25000
cl_cmdrate 60
cl_updaterate 60
these settings are for cable/dsl and for some people need to be tweaked to give best performance. These are settings I use for best performance in CS and CS/source. so use at your own risk.....

Here are some ways to lower your ping. I play battlefield online and my ping is only 10 while i'm at home with wireless dsl from verizon. If i'm connected through an ethernet it is like 5ish. To lowre your ping try/do these things:
*turn off AIM or anything else that use computer/internet resouces
*to play fps games, you probably need more than 512mb (1gb at least)
*run the game STRAIGHT from the harddrive instead of the cd, to do this you'll need a program like alcohol 52%

that was the help i was lookin for.. i managed to keep my lag steady at about 40... AWESOME...

rate above 20k has been show to decrease performance, so leave it at 20k
cmdrate should be as high as possible
and updaterate should be as high as possible without any loss
turn on netgraph 3 to see what im talking about, there are other small tweaks that ive since forgotten... suff about not drawing polygons if they are underwater and other small things that will net you .1 or so more fps... make sure fps_max is set to 101 which is also the setting i recommend for cmdrate. lemme do a little more looking as there is one more very important setting which i cant remember
