DVI to HDMI cable...
Hey guys. I ordered an HDMI to DVI cable on Friday along with the 1.3a HMDI cable and a Toslink cable. (( from monoprice of course ))
According to USPS, it should be arriving today and I want to try a little experiment. I own a 17" Sony LCD from 2004 that cost about 499.99 back when I built my PC.
I'm wondering if anyone's tried to connect their PS3 to a computer monitor with DVI and how it looked. So far, I can't seem to find a person who's successfully connected a PS3 to their Sony 17" LCD
I'm syched because if it turns out to be great, then I may forgo purchasing my LCD 42" or at least wait until late fall/early winter before I buy one...
What do you guys think?

BTW....the model # of my LCD is
SDM-HS74P/S
Stats...
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-X-Brite-S.../dp/B0002I9WIG
* 1,280 x 1,024 native resolution
* 500:1 contrast ratio for sharp images
* Adjustable brightness from 150 to 400 nits of brightness
* Analog and digital DVI-D inputs, cables included
* PC and Mac compatible; 3-year warranty
Processor, Memory, and Motherboard
* Hardware Platform: PC
Yeah I know its a dinosaur compared to some of the 22 and 24" offerings but for gaming and PC use, its worked flawlessly and served its purpose over the years with no issues/dead pixels etc.
What do you guys think...should I even bother?

Don't forget to test both DVD/BDP playback as well as game content from the PS3. If you have a problem with either one, try changing the setting for 3:2 pulldown on the PS3 (I'm assuming it has one. I don't own a console.)

Unfortunately guys it didn't on that monitor grr. I even tried the video reset option for the PS3 but it didn't display the signal on the screen. I'm now selling it on craigslist so I can pickup one of these

Keep in mind you're sacrificing some resolution with that Sammy monitor. It's native resolution is 1680 x 1050 which is less (and a slightly different aspect ratio) than a 1080p signal. At 22" though, you'll probably never see the difference.
I'm also trying to compare one with and without the tuner as far as cost is concerned like this one

and this one

I figure I only want a screen for gameplay and I've heard good things about the Samsung/Acer screens so I should be set with anyone of these monitors or do you guys have any other suggestions I should be checking out?
Is anyone else here running a 22-26" monitor for their PS3/360 gaming? If so, which one are you using and why did you chose that one? Thanks in advance

I really have no clue on what's out there that will support game consoles. There are two things you have to keep in mind:
1) The required physical HDMI connection
2) The game console is expecting to be connected to a TV. As such, it's outputting video signals targeted at televisions, not computer monitors. Whatever monitor you go with, you'll need to make certain that it can accept standard high definition TV video signals as an input.
720p (1280 x 720, 60 fields per second progressive)
1080p (1920 x 1080, 60 fields per second progressive)
The 60 progressive fields per second is essntially what a regular computer video card is doing when it's outputting at "60 Hz" to any LCD monitor so essentially that part should be automaticly supported.

The price also looks good. My only concern is the resolution required for 1080p is higher than the one this screen is capable of...
What kind of problems will I run into etc....Billard, do you know off hand the 720p resolution #s?

As for PS3 game play, it rocks 720p so well. I wish I could do 1080 but the monitor doesn't seem to support that field as of yet. In the manual/insert it says its capable of doing 1920 x 1080 resolution I think but when the PS3 upscales to that field the monitor says it cannot display that and the screen stays blank
All in all I'm about 95% satisfied with the exception of the 1080 resolution option that's missing. IF I can have that I'd be 110% due to the rest of the things the monitor does well.
The biggest shock is how much bigger this screen seems to be vs the 17" LCD I'm still like
