Does anyone use GameFly or a similar online system?

Just wondering if anyone had any experience, it'd be nice not to be limited to a one week period to try and beat a game. I have precious few hours to play, much less be on a deadline. SO has anyone tried this before or know anyone that has?

I signed up with Gamefly recently, they are in west coast so it takes over 1 week to get to me. Another word I'm cancelling after my date is done.

I had gamefly. I'm in Arizona and I got the games pretty quick.

Then one day they told me they didn't get a game back. I emailed in and said I sent the game back, never got a reply. Assumed case closed. A few months ago I get a letter from a collection agency.

Gamefly sucks.

reviving this thread back from the dead, has anyone had any recent experiences with gamefly? I figure they've been around for longer so maybe they improved their service?

I was looking at their website, and it seems that they have a "keep it" option. If you like the game you rent, you can just buy it from them. Is the cost of the rental credited against the price of the game? Do they overcharge on the games?

I have used Gamefly off and on for the last 2 years. If I am going to buy a game, I usually rent if first. I got Madden for the 360 at $39.99 that was the "keep it" price. Thing is I rented it the day it came out and just kept it for about a month playing it. The price slowly dropped, so I got it $20 cheaper than in store and it was only used by me. They also started what they call "Fast shipping". The way it works is when you mail your game the minute the Post Office scans it into their system, GameFly ships your next game. This cuts the wait time down from 7 days to 3 days. I love the service, and will probably use it for a while.

Really? Thats interesting since the shipping time was bad experience for me. I have used NumbThumbs.com in the past and samething horrible shipping takes over 1 week to get a game to my house.

edit: If I had time to sign up I would give the Blockbuster gamepass a try.

Never heard of numbthumbs, cool name though.... From what I understood Blockbuster doesn't mail them, you have to go in store. Correct? I like Gamefly for a couple of reasons: They have all games on launch day (unlike Blockbuster or Hollywood video) They offer reasonable "keep it" prices depending on popularity, rentals, and times rented. If your going to rent online, Gamefly is the way to go. But I totaly understand your gripe about shipping times, which i mentioned b4 they have cut down on. One more company you can look at is Game shark or something like that.

does gamefly offer reduced "keep it" prices to members?
I know they sell to non-members, but if they offer a discount to members, the deal becomes much sweeter

My friend has been using it for the better part of 2.5 years and loves it. He lives in NY and has never had a problem receiving a game within a few days. He's also kept some games for a while, and others sent right back if they sucked... and never had a problem getting a new one from his queue.

Hence the name "keep it" meaning you have rented it. But yes, they offer decent rates. Its based on popularity, availability, amount of times that game has been rented and how long you have been with Gamefly. Like I stated earlier in the thread. When Madden 06 came out for the 360 they sent me the game and I played it for about a month. In the stores it was selling for $60 and Gamefly offered me to "keep it" for $39.99. Which I obviously did. Then they send you the original case and instructions. I probably have around 40 xbox and 360 games. I would say maybe 12 of them have been purchased from game fly. I wont "keep it" if its scratched either, I always make sure it plays well b4 i keep it.

I use Gameznflix, so far have had nothing but good things to say about them;

-Great price
-You can rent DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, PS3, 360, PS2, PSP and all sorts of other stuff;

Check them out at http://www.gameznflix.com/

If you have any questions let me know, and I will answer what I can but if you are thinking about with a rental service this is the one I would go with first. You are not tied into just renting games, if you want you can rent movies as well.

Reviving this thread... currently considering either gamefly, gottaplay, or gamerang. Anyone have any recent experience with these companies?

Gamefly sucks.
+1

I have the same experience with them. Very poor service and they like to accuse you of stealing..... I also forgot to include how they like to refer your file to collections without figuring out the issues with you.

I highly do not recommend them.

i used to use gamefly. i had the two game plan ($25/month). i recently cancelled, because i simply don't play enough games to warrant the extra cost. i never had any problems with them. it always took a few days to get em. if you rent the game, you can keep it for a discounted price.

How long does it typically take for games to get to you?

I didn't know gnf was still around. I bought some of their stock about year ago when I signed up for their service. Their stock went to zero and so did their service. I though their service was deplorable and figured they'd gone out of business.

I moved to gamefly and have been with them ever since. they have three distribution centers now. Just open the last one in FL and my turnaround times are now 1-2 days. I love anyone that gives a little love to FL.

Make sure you check around, but from what I've read and experienced recently GameFly seems to be the front runner. Their website is top-notch. www.gamefly.com.

Just wanted to revive the thread seeing how i started my first membership with them.

i got sick of paying $50-60 for games that sucked without being able to try them first (no demos)

despite my friend saying he had bad luck with their shipping speed/service, i decided to try it out.

i made my account yesterday afternoon, and both of my top 2 games were shipped out today. im expecting them tomorrow...

if this is a preview of whats to come, i see this being a very useful service.
anyone else using it right now?

what i didnt know is that if you liked the game you rented, they will sell it to you at used price, and if you would like to sell a game to them, they have better rates than gamestop, and provide a shipping label for you to send it out to them.
