Dell wannabe
It is MDG and they are all over Canada.
I was buying Dell but this time I gave them a try.
Last Wedbesday, I bought a system (Intel Dual Core, 19" LCD) for a price around 10% less than a Dell 5150C.
At midnight (a few hours later), they introduced a new offer on their website that includes all taxes (GST/PST around 15% combined).
I was supposed to pick it up this afternoon. I called a few times and my sales person referred me to the sales manager who does not return my call.
This is a dispute about 200$. IU want them to cancel the Wednesday invoice and make another one dated today.
I realize that my price was still better than Dell, but I have the feeling that they try to screw me. This is insulting.
What would you do?

I had to bark, but they finally credited me 115$. Now 1200$CAD+txs.
BUT they did the same as one of my employee. They installed different components than on quote.
Instead of a HD Western Digital SATA250Gb, they put a Samsung SP2504C. It is rated 250Gb by Samsung, but it has in real 232Gb (249 995 000 000 byte)s.
At least it has great reviews.
Instead of a Viewsonic VB910, I got VA902. Yet it has also great reviews and I dont' see important differences.
XP Media is installed. When I try to install my XP Pro, it stops because the XP version is newer. Do I have to reformat my HD? In the BIOS, I didn'T find a way to boot with the CD-Rom. I have a floppy.
Can I install a 80Gb ATA even if I have SATA 1 or 2?

In the past we've had mixed results with Samsung hard drives but the SpinPoint SP2504C SATA-II drive has changed all that. Not only is it quiet in operation but it is also very effective and fast, and if you shop around the price is very fair too.
I was very pleasantly surprised to see the results. The SP2504C is without a doubt the fastest SATA drive (as far as STR is concerned) that I have ever used. 73MB/s STR in the 'high range' is pretty amazing. Prior to this drive, I have only seen those kind of numbers from some high end SCSI drives.

You're right, they are the worst machines on the market. When I used to work for a high-end computer shop in the GTA, every week we had people bringing in MDG machines to us to fix. Here's the kicker.... they were still under warranty!
The customers were so pissed off at MDG that it wasn't worth their time to have them fixed for free.
I've seen them mount hard drives with twist ties.
I've seen them glue heatsinks onto CPUs.
I've even seen them sell overclocked CPUs to unsuspecting customers.
I don't want to rain on your parade, but just make sure you go over everything with a fine-tooth comb to make sure you got what you paid for. Samsung is cheaper than WD so it's no wonder they went with it.
