Anything I should know before buying used PS3?
I'm thinking about picking up a PS3 from Craigslist. Are there any issues or anything I should know about? Any defective models, any build dates better than any others?
Any advice is appreciated. Just thinking about the XBOX ring of death problem, would like to know if there is anything similar afflicting PS3.
Thanks.

Most of the PS3s have been issue free, but like with any manfucturing process, there are going to be lemons in a bunch.
My suggestion is to verify the purchase date of the PS3 via a receipt, or if he is willing to give you the S/N for you to verify through Sony.
If an issue occurs, do a warranty ticket. Also, see if you can test it out if the person is local.

the 60GB's are loud...atleast after about an hour of play mine gets loud.
Other then that, I don't know anyone who has had problems. I did have a problem with a controller that liked to track to one side. But sent it to sony and had a brand new one in 4 days
Personally, i'd much rather buy a NEW one from the store for $399

Personally, the PS3 would have to be 199 for me to buy it on CL, including extras.
Alright...thanks guys... but yeah CLpower you are right, I'd rather just go new and not have to worry about it.
I just want the most basic system, think Amazon is my best bet? I've poked around a bit, don't see any bundles with a free game or controller or anything.

Gran Tourismo 5 - Prologue.... so this isn't actually GT5, just a demo?

FYI, the 40gb PS3 doesn't have backward compatibility with PS2 games.
The 80gb partially does through software emulation.
The 20gb and 60gb (both no longer in production) has PS2 hardware built in.
Don't know if this is an issue for you or not.
Here is a link to Wikipedia. There is a grid that shows the differences between models.

I was going to suggest to wait for the 80GB that comes with Metal Gear 4 and a dual shock controller for $499 but backward compatibility is not an issue for you. It might work out better if you want the game and dual shock though. I'm sure Amazon will let you transfer the funds.
