95 on XP
I recently went through all my old computer games, and i dug up the original Need for Speed Special Edition. The game is a Windows 95 and MSDOS game. When I install the game I get an error. Is there anyway I could still install this game? Anyone have any suggestions?
right click on the shortcut, under the compatiablitly tab, click the box that says "combatillity mode" then it will have drop down box that says windows 95.. click ok, then try and run again.

I have the same disk, the compatibility thing never worked for me though. I finally ended up just buying a 500 mhz pII computer to play dos games on.
There is a program available now that goes by the name of doxbox I think. http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1

It's a bit odd remembering commands to mount drives in dos, but it does execute the file without the memory error. Instead it comes up with a error trying to load the font file from /FRONTEND/ART/FONTS/
If you have any luck with the compatibility thing please share.

Well i figured out where to find the compatibility tab. I set it for windows 95. When i went back to load the game i got an error message saying my computer failed to open a new window. I also install dosbox I just cant figure out how to use this program.
Certain games wont work properly under DosBox, such as Aces over Europe and Aces of the Pacific.
Getting a pure MS-DOS machine using old parts is the best solution IMO
