Any kind of amp that supports Dolby Digital and Pro Logic II can do it.

I have a Yamaha 6.1 system. My GT4 experience can't be any better than this.

Depends on how many devices you are going to use with the amp.

Just the PS2 alone? Or more like cable box, DVD player, VCR etc.

But the most important question is: Do you have any speakers right now? If you don't you need a get a full package which costs a lot more than a receiver itself.

I paid about $800 CDN for my Yamaha system w/speakers and subwoofer 2 years ago.

A cheap quality route to take is to get the Klipsch 5.1 satellites+sub+amp - I believe its called the Ultra 5.1 system... will cost you about $350 or so and the sound is sweet. Does not require an external amplifier.

I moved my PS2 to the family room's entertainment system; GT4 is awesome there. I hooked up the Monster HD Component Cables, and along with them..

an Optical Cable to the PS2. My family has a Sony DAV-FR9 "Dream System", that's where the Dolby Pro Logic II comes out of. The overall setup is very nice, but pricey. I am letting you know what I have, because if you have a PL II capable surround sound system, an Optical Cable should do the trick. Good luck anyway.

PL II has nothing to do with optical cable. A normal composive cable(yellow, white and red)can do the trick. Optical is for the 48khz/16 to 24 bit linear PCM audio from AC3(Dolby Digital) and DTS soundtracks.

If you need to watch the GT4 opening CG movie in DD 5.1, then you have to hook it up with optical.

oh. hmm. Alright really quickly, I have the Optical Cable hooked up; which Mode would work the best? The PLII sounds awesome as it is, but if there's better...

PLII Movie if you have a 5.1/6.1 system, PLII Game for anything above 7.1.

I don't think the DTS decoder works, so don't bother with it,

Yeah I had the PLII Movie setup going. I believe I have 5.1 Audio, so that's the right one. Thanks.
