360wned (yes still)

ok, so a friend of mine got a 360 earlier this month that he had preordered back in june. Anyways, this was supposedly manufactured after the problem with the crashing had been fixed, but regardless my friend still was very careful with his xbox360. He has one of those entertainment center bookshelf type things and he has one cube of it specifically for the xbox360 main unit and another cube specifically for the power unit (which is bigger than a gamecube btw), and he's always been sure that both are properly ventilated.

well... that apparently wasn't good enough. His 360 crashed on him yesterday in teh middle of a halo2 session with him and his friends online. The whole system completely crashed horribly, didn't even get an error message, just everything screwed up.

he turned it off and back on and all it does is start to load up then just flash 3 red lights around the power button.

He has to send it in to get it fixed and won't have it again for 1.5-2 weeks.

so much for microsoft fixing the problem.

like i've been saying from the beggining, sure it's a powerful system, but not a reasonably powerful system.

if I ever do end up buying one, it'll be around christmas of this year. maybe they'll have solved the cooling problems or other hardware/software bugs by then.

typical, does the stability of the system seem to reflect other microsoft products?

im sure there are plenty of people with absolutly no problems and a great experience. im waiting for the ps3 to see what the competition is like

ironically his brother got a system on launch day and hasn't had a single problem... though i'm sure his brother probably hasn't played it as much as my friend even though he's had it longer.

maybe it just get's worn down easily from extended play times... which is retarded, because whenever I play I usually end up going all out and play for a really long time.

I'm probably not even going to bother with the PS3 though as there really arne't any games for the PS2 that would warrant a purchase for it. I might buya 360 when they are cheaper, but I'm definitely going to buy a revolution. i've been playing nintendo games since I was 6 years old, and though the've made some bad business decisions in teh past they have never let me down with overall gameplay experience.

I bought my gamecube the day it came out, and have put probably 2000+hours of gameplay on it and it hasn't given me a problem yet.

Mine sits vertically on a little corner table in my room. Off the ground in open air. No issues.

Having it sit in an enclosed area...even an "open" one just means its recirculating hot air.

From what i've seen on the xbox sites, either they have problems or they don't, the people i know that have them all play for very long periods of time.

hmm.. I'll pass that along sarlacc. I haven't been over to his house in a while, so I don't remember exactly how it's setup, but perhaps you are right about how it's recirulating the hot air.

still disappointing that something like that woud cause problems. If it's really that sensitive then it's not ready for release IMO.

between super smash brothers and power tennis, cube is our most used console by far. i just got a game called Super Puzzle Fighter for ps1, so our ps2 is getting a lot of use.

how is Power Tennis? can you compare it to Virtua Tennis or Top Spin? I've played Super Puzzle Fighter on PS1 - that is pretty addicting.

Keep the air circulating, preferably get a fan near it. I believe the power supply overheats, so keep that ventilated.

This is because Nintendo uses very simple components in their systems. If you want a more advanced system, you will have more problems.

The 360 is running at approximately a 1-2% defect rate according to Analysts which is not different and any new consumer electronics device.

i only really play the multiplayer. when you have 4 people playing its SO much more fun then any other tennis games, and the replay is better then virtua tennis. nintendo has always been a master of 4 person games (smash brothers is so sick)

very simple components? oh come on... the gamecube was more powerful than the ps2 and barely less powerful than the xbox, yet both the xbox and ps2 had serious launch problems.

oh suuure... believe that 1-2%, but keep in mind most of the media is involved with microsoft somehow and they won't let bad press come out... only microsoft know what the real number is, but we'll never know. [/conspiracy theory]
