360, PS3, PC: Call of Duty - Black Ops
Activision has officially pulled the tarp off the next installment in their blockbuster Call of Duty franchise, although it's still shrouded in a fair bit of mystery.
The new game is called Call of Duty: Black Ops and will take place "behind enemy lines." It's being developed by Treyarch, who created the 2008 Call of Duty hit, Call of Duty: World at War, and is due out November 9 of this year.
"We have focused our entire studio on this game, with dedicated multiplayer, single-player and co-op teams creating the most intense, gripping and riveting experience possible for our fans on all fronts,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch, in a release.
While many have speculated that the next game in the series would take place in Vietnam, the game's debut trailer doesn't specifically disclose the whens and wheres. It does, however, disclose all kinds of awesome explosions:

Upon closer inspection, we can hazard a couple guesses. Several shots show jungle environments filled with modest huts, older vehicles, and even a rickety rope bridge, while soldiers seem to be favoring old-school gear and headbands. Vietnam -- or perhaps the broader Cold War -- doesn’t sound so far-fetched, although that creepy doctor bit sure looked modern to us. Flashbacks, maybe?
The trailer caps off a rollercoaster week for publisher Activision, which includes both a major lawsuit and a major acquisition.

As long as it's not another WWII game, I'm interested.

Wow. I said I probably wasn't going to get this or Reach, but....
Nice to see FPS games becoming a little like RPGs. Part of why I really liked Mass Effect/2 was how you could customize all your armor, now you can do it with weapons too (probably not new in shooting games, but still). I really liked R6, but IMO it was a little too slow and campy for me. I also really liked Halo for a while but a lot of it is based on what weapons/vehicle you have. Still, they both have people who are better at teamwork than in COD. But I like fast paced CQB, stealthy/silent and indoors combat.
For some reason I never got into the Treyarch CODs.... but I like the dismemberment and supposedly being crouched/prone will actually affect your accuracy this time.
damn it Ken, now I wanna play R6V.... too bad I don't have the 2nd one and I sold the first one

Anybody getting this for PC? I honestly think the multiplayer is going to be a lot better than in MW2. They've taken care of some of the really gay things that IW did with multiplayer. There's not going to be stopping power or gay ass commando or OMA, I don't think cold blooded protects you from helicopters, there aren't as many killstreaks so they should be more balanced. Not to mention there will be gun game, which I LOVED playing in counterstrike, there will be dedicated servers with mod tools released some time after launch, and I'm even going to be able to make a custom penis reticle for my sights that people get to see when I kill them

Yeah, honestly.... stopping power is silly. Outside of HC, most people use it as the perk. And commando is quite gay.

Safety Car
Don't even get me started with Commando, that is one of the main reasons I quit playing MW2 (other than one or two matches every week or so). Most people I play with use Commando Pro and Lightweight, which somehow makes them impervious to bullets. I can be pumping bullet after bullet in some guy, yet he somehow teleports through the bullets and knifes me. It looks even more stupid when you see it happen to someone else. One guy is shooting the enemy then all of a sudden the enemy slides 6 feet across the floor and kills the guy anyway. STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!
I used to play this MW2 all the time, and managed a 1.63 K/D on my main profile and a 2.40 on my other, but there is just too much frustration in this game with these gay ass perks in addition to being spawned right into airstrikes, bullets curving around corners and on top of this enemies spawn right behind me meaning there isn't a damn thing I can do.
I didn't even get the 2nd map pack because 1.) $15 is ridiculous, 2.) It will just suck me back in to a very frustrating game as the first map pack did.
I'm on the fence about Black Ops because of MW2's issues, the previews seem good, but I'm not getting it until I know for sure the issues with MW2 are not there. Hopefully Treyarch does a better job than IW in both Single player and multiplayer.

Yeah, I really regret buying the 2nd map pack. I said I wouldn't buy the 1st one, said I wouldn't buy the 2nd one, and I went on a playing binge right after I bought each one, then I stopped playing, period. I think Treyarch is under the same company (?) but I hope not.... don't wanna pay $15 for a few maps twice again. If they add maps, they should at least add new content. Would be a bigger draw, and be more worth it.
