Before you read anything, watch the trailer. This will allow the "ultimate dramatic effect".

What do you think?
I'm pretty iffy about it myself.
Personally I don't feel this game should carry the title of "BioShock". That would be like calling BioShock "SystemShock: Atlantis" or something.
The atmosphere doesn't feel nearly as dark and gloomy, which is a very large component of BioShock's success. Hopefully they can make up for that with great game play.
The location/time itself is not as appealing to me. Then again, that may be because it kinda reminds me of this one animated movie for some reason.

The game doesn't seem all bad though. The trailer did invoke a notion of wonder and awe. I am curious to see how this turns out!
Oh in case you didn't catch it, comes out in 2012.

Although BioShock Infinite shares some of the same core concepts of the original BioShock, the motivation of the characters and the world itself are drastically different.
While Rapture was built away from civilization in secret, the city in BioShock Infinite was built to publicly showcase the ingenuity and progress of America. Rather than a city submerged like that in the original BioShock, Infinite features an advanced city built to float in the sky.
It's the late 1800's when Columbia, a city built to rise up and sit among the clouds as an expression of great American democratic ideals, is born. Although the city was formed to show the world how advanced America has become both in industry and political stature, there are dark secrets that plague the world. "What started out as the Apollo Project became the Death Star," Irrational Games boss Ken Levine says, describing that Columbia is soon discovered to be "armed to the teeth" before thrusting itself into a violent international incident. Soon after this "incident," the city escapes view into the clouds and is never seen or heard of again.

Interesting, after 2 trips to rapture I am ready for something new. I thought the next one would be based around the founding of Rapture.
But since BioShock is so much about the overall atmosphere, it will be interesting to see how they pull that off.

Interesting, but I've only played the first Bioshock. It looks like they wanted to take the idealistic city gone bad idea to a new setting and time. As good as the first one is in combining an engaging story, exploration of some ideals and just plain action, I'll give this one a shot.
But again, I still need to play Bioshock 2, when I find some time.

Looks interesting. I'll be checking out, I wonder how they are going to pull the new city off.
I beat the first on XBOX 360, then bought Bioshock 2 for the PS3 (with a free copy of Bioshock 1).
After I beat Bioshock 2, I decided to play my free copy of Bioshock 1. Man, I didn't remember how long Bioshock 1 was; its much longer than Bioshock 2.

Damn...I just jumped on the bioshock wagon recently and picked up the first one...took me a bit to get into it...unlocking more plasmids and all. But it's addicting....and I absolutely love how the environment "feels" alive (sounds in the distance and lighting and all). Too bad #2 is short...but I cant imagine playing the role of a big daddy having too much depth.

But to my surprise Bio Shock 2 is really good. There are new plasmids as well as some old ones, you can also use weapons and plasmids at the same time. You as a big daddy is very strong, but there are also stronger slicers, as well as Big Sisters that will attack you from time to time. My only real complaint about the BioShock 2 is that is seems a bit shorter than the original, but its still a nice length and the story line is excellent as the original was.
big sisters? well...that's cool....I heard about being able to use plasmids and weapons simultaneously...which is awesome because using L1 and R1 to switch back and forth is very annoying...
Yup, they pulled off BioShock 2 pretty well. I'm going to play through it again, considering that Infinite won't be out for a couple of years. The first time I saved all the little sisters, this time I might harvest them all and kill all the other characters to get a different ending.
Another thing I forgot to mention is that they got rid of that lame ass "pipe dream" type hacking that was BioShock 1. Now its replaced with a needle that you have to stop in a green section 3 or 4 times depending on what you are hacking. It gets very hard, but at least it not as annoying as the bioshock 1 hacking system.

The original Bioshock was amazing and so well done.
Bioshock 2 was, sadly, more of the same. Nothing new, nothing break out. I still had fun with it and beat...but it was as awesome as playing the original the first time through.

First is a small "gameplay video". (I say it with quotes as it really doesn't show all too much)
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/q3eVvbltxUI?hd=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Next, is part two of a "behinds the scenes look" video. It looks like they are focusing a lot more on the characters in this game than the last one. In the previous Bioshocks, the city was obviously the star of the show. In this one, they still have the cool city, but there is a lot more emotional engagement with the characters. For example the character you are playing already has his own back story and his own voice, unlike the last ones where you are a silent killer.
In this video you can see the emphasis on the characters. They even yelled at one of the voice actors until she cried (@1:48) so that she was in the right mindset set for the take. (Some F'bombs dropped here so possible NSFW)
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/WApuS3roz7s?hd=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
...And finally here is a 2 minute demo from E3 that showcases some of the personality in the characters as well as some gameplay mechanics. (I have it to start at 1:23 to skip all the boring bits)
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4ElqttmJXgI?hd=1&start=0083"r" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
You can watch the 15 minute demo in the link below. It includes some fun facts and lets you see a bit more of the game.

This game has one of the best endings I've come across. This has a completely different atmosphere than Rapture, which is a given. Nonetheless, I was immersed in it fully. LOVE this game, although I wish Songbird and the Boys of Silence were given a bit more depth. Maybe in future DLC.
