That isn't too inaccurate a statement. This is great for HD video, video production, music production, and gaming, to name a few.

There is close to a 30% access benefit in a 7200 rpm drive vs. a 5400.

I got my work laptop and within the first 2 weeks I replace the 5400 with a 100gb 7200 and you can definitely tell the difference.

You have to remember that the Hard Drive is the slowest component of a PC's subsystem. Any increase in rotational speed directly affects every app that frequently accesses the hard drive. I have found this to be most evident in multi-tasking and gaming.

Nice to finally see bigger, faster drives for laptops. Hopefully when I ready for my Mac Book Pro these will be a little cheaper.

It's all about the speed, I run 2 74g 10 speeds, in my desktop for my c drive.

that's hot.

p.s., you'd have to be crazy to run a 5400rpm drive this day in age.

They do have 2.5" 10K AND 15K RPM drives but they are mainly for server environments as they are SAS drives. They are powered and controlled differently than a laptop.

IMO, the future for laptops lies in products like these... http://www.tgdaily.com/2007/02/26/adtron_flash/

I just got to install two 72Gig Raptor 10k rpm SATA HD's in a machine that had 7200 rpm 80 gig drives. And I wasn't expecting much but holy crap it was a hell of a lot faster than it was. I will definitely purchase one of those next time.

I had the 36GB Raptor drive on my desktop and needed more space but couldn't justifty the cost of the 72GB when i could get the 300GB for cheaper and have triple the space.

After upgrading to the 300GB and reinstalling the OS over a month ago, I regret it, teh 10K drive is a huge difference in performance.

Too much of a hassle to get the 72GB and reinstall everything for me at the moment.
