Went to the track: Huge Rant Time

Okay am I retarded trying to run my car on Pirelli P-Zero Nero All seasons? Or is my clutch taking a dive?

Here's what occured tonight....

I could not get traction worth a damn no matter what gear I was in.... I could be in 3rd not even on full throttle and the tires would break loose...

I was able to get a 2.2 60' on my first run... then it went all down hill... After shifting into 2nd I got to redline ridiculously fast shifted to 3rd it climbed quick again so I was thinking shit I didn't have traction that whole time. Let off the gas... got on it again and redline again? I don't think the car is that powerful to climb up that high that fast... anyway here is an idea of 1 of the slips where I just said fuck it at the end of the run

60' 2.2
330 5.901
1/8 9.087
MPH 73.04
1000 12.147
1/4 14.893
MPH 77.85

I got on the brakes at some point in the run because I just was so mad....

Can it possibly be my clutch giving out or just the Pirelli's aint cutting it?

This run I got on the gas not even 3/4 way and it still wasn't gripping for shit.

60' 2.4
330 6.439
1/8 9.564
MPH 81.24
1000 12.159
1/4 14.392
MPH 101.10

This is ridiculous I nearly ran a 14 flat before boost and pullies and I'm getting worse times cuz I can't get traction worth a damn while rolling.

Notice the difference in the of 1/2 a second on the 330s and 1/8 and the MPH... is it my clutch or should I get some real rubber?

and on that first run.... the guy I ran against ran a low 13 while I had a faster 330 (5.901 vs. 6.003) and worse 60'(2.2 vs 2.0)... I'm certain this car is good for low 13's if it would hold onto the god damn track...

Get some real rubbers please lol. Do not run your car on all season tires. I would recommend going with some D/R.

It's the rubber. If your tires were slipping like crazy, your clutch was gripping and doing it's job.

What psi were you running in your front tires?

Its your tires. You said you had no problem on the street with this. If it was your clutch you'd have problems whenever you got on it, on the street or track.

Track prep may have just sucked.

What'd be some good rubber to go on my current 18s that'll be balanced between great traction and decent treadwear? The only tire that pulled up on Tirerack were Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07 @ 250 a pop and those were Extreme Performance Summer tires.

I would go w/ Falken Azenis RT-615 since you want to daily drive on them. You should be able to catch traction with them.

Take a look at the Goodyear Eagle F-1's. Pretty decent treadwear and great grip. It's a summer tire but works great in the rain also.

I might just be better off buying a pair of lightweight 17s and some D/Rs and only put them on for track use... Its almost end of season anyway ='(

what tire pressure were you running?

the only gear you should have trouble w/ traction is 1st.

if you don't have issues on revving high RPM on gear and the car is not moving (street or track), chances are it's your tires not your clutch.

+1 for tires. The CLS6 is a bitch to get traction even with good tires in 1st. Add your SC power & you get even less.

Same thing happened to a friend, he wasnt getting traction and when hed tap the gas the clutch slipped and would go to extremely high RPM's if not redline ... but dont worry his clutch burned out the next day If you feel it slipping or you have/continue to smell bendex (i think thats the smelly stuff the clutch is made out of) or whatever its called, get it to your dealer asap.

I think you're on the right track about getting some light weight wheels with DR's. That's probably best if you plan on going to the track a lot.

My launching wasn't bad... my first run I took it easy and managed a 2.2 but after going through gears I can't really tell if my tires were spinning or my clutch was taking a crap....

The other 2 runs I took it very slowly from the line and throughout the gears and still had the same problem.

I find it hard to believe that doing 70+ I'm still spinning tires... I think my clutch is finished...

Good thing the guy that sold me the BBK and Charger has the Comptech Flywheel/Clutch Combo. Should I go with this or just get the stock clutch? He'll probably give me a good deal on the combo being that I already bought a buncha stuff from him already.

I had the exact same problem as you with the 6-speed and the charger.

However, I would be able to roast the clutch and the tires.

I pulled off a 2.000 60' with 300whp.

They are good tires on the right track at the right psi.

Clutch is toast... it wasn't traction problems... Ashame since the cost of labor is going to set me back where I won't have another shot at hitting the track again this season.

Doesn't matter. The shorter sidewall he has to run with 18"s (versus 17" wheels) is going to hurt his short times.

I went to the track today and my clutch also slipped through every gear. Let me as u this, does ur car and clutch ride normal with daily driving and just acts up when u get on it hard?? cause thats what my car has been doing so im trying to figure out what needs to be done.

It isn't so bad... just when I get on it. Keep in mind I have a supercharger so I'm putting down quite a bit of power. I get on it probably less than 50% driving nowadays.

You trapped at 101mph with a 14.3 et, so you must have been movin' at the end. Maybe CL's are different since they have torque, but when I used to run low 14's with 2.2-2.1 60 footers, I was trapping at about 95mph.

Those might not have been great runs you had, but with a trap like that with a slipping clutch, mid-low 13's look possible.
