Z4 3.0i or S2000
Which would you choose: Z4 or S2k?
I know some of you might say go SLK 350 or even 280, but there ain't no 280 in Canada (Darn it!) and 350 is just too expensive.
Anyone know if a successor for the S2k would come out soon?

I would definatly go for the S2k, it should be cheaper then a Z4... pluss the aftermarket company embrasse the S2000... If you can't get a new S2k, go buy a used one, they are fairly cheap now a days.

thanks, but i dun plan on doing any modding except wheels(for sure) and bodykit(slim chance). BMW is doing a clearance sale, the rate is very low. The monthly payments are within a hundred bucks, so the cheaper part does not apply unless I buy a used S2k. However, I dunno which model year i should get, i heard there have been many changes over the years...?

I never really liked the BMW Z4, if I recall its an American only car. The S2k is more of a true sports car then the Z4 - IMO, its lighter and more bare bones. There is better feedback transmitted to the driver through the S2k, and its overall a more fun car to take on a spirited drive. If it was my only car, I would perhaps think about the more refined BMW, but for sheer thrills my nod is to the S2k.

A brand new S2K is a bit more driveable in daily situations due to the larger 2.2L engine and the more relaxed 8000RPM redline. The older ones had a 9000RPM redline and have a harsh ride, to the point of being punishing.

A bit more driveable compared to an old s2k, but he's comparing it to a z4. Z4 takes a lot more of the rough edges off the s2k.

I like the S2K exterior a LOT better then the Z4. But the interior, flat torque curve, and the smoothness of the I6 in the Z4 would make me pick it over the S2K to drive everyday. But for a weekend fun car S2K hands down!

I wasn't sure if that was a myth or not, which is why I made the statement if I recall thanks for clearing it up

and how is Z4 which comes out to about 40,000 similar priced to S2K which can be obtained at 30,000????
if you are leasing then = Z4
Purchasing I will def say S2K. Better reliability and save yourself extra 10g for mods!

They are indeed, but I still think I am going hold off and possibly pay a touch more and wait for a 2006(rumored to be the last year). The S2k is not a "hot" car anymore, from a sales stand point, so they are willing to deal, you should not pay a penny over $30k for one any more.
That's why I don't understand how people feel the zero down $384/month is a good deal. Would you sell a 3 year old S2k with 36k on it for a touch over $16k? I doubt it, its costing you an extra $4k+ to drive the thing for those first three years to just give it back. Unless your reasons are tax modivated it makes sense to purchase this car. You can buy them at 10% off msrp and they still have good residual value. Sure you could probably invest the difference and make the money back, but you'll have to pay taxes on the interest and it may be tough - if your not a shrewd investor - to make $4k+ off the $14k difference in three years, not to mention most people would just blow the difference.... But now I am rambling.
Cliffnotes, if you have the money to buy this car you'd be better served to buy it then to lease it, unless its through a business for tax breaks- of course this is all IMO.

Sounds about right. When I was at the dealer the other day the service guy said they are discontinuing the s2k and bringing back the prelude.
