wow. CL65 depreciation
wow. CL65 depreciation
new MSRP for this car is $180,000. there's a used 2005 down the street from me with 2477 miles on it selling for 135,000. That's over 18$ a mile in depreciation cost alone, before even taking into account the car payment cost per mile.

i dunno. i guess alot of higher priced cars are like this but it just came as a shock to me. i think if i can ever afford one of these things i'll go with a used one.

I saw something similar earlier this year at a local BMW dealership. The CEO of Dell computer, Kevin Rollins (sp?) CL65 was there. It had every imaginable option, even air conditioned seats and a Brabus wheel package. I can't remember what year it was but they were asking $95 for it.
That dude probably paid cash for it anyways.

a kid here bought one of these a little while ago using some money he made in real estate...he didn't have a great job or anything he just made out on the housing boom in Cali. i didn't think much of it at the time but what a horrible investment for someone like that. he could have grown that cash; instead he's probably losing more per year on the car than he makes at his job.

Air conditioned seats isn't that exclusive of an option any more, most cars/SUV's over $50k have them as an option and its very worth while to have. No swamp ass on hot july day equals worth while option.
And I agree most cars over $150k depreciate faster then regular cars. I guess it comes with the territory of being a
I heard that the CL65 isn't selling very well and MB overproduced this model which I'm sure is helping the slide in value. It's way too much $$ for what it is, and there are better options out there for the same $$.
Few problems with the CL65
1. MB build too many of them.
2. It's ridiculously expensive.
3. For the $, people were just buying the SL65.
4. Ever since the SL came out in 2003, CL sales in general have been going down each year.

One of my friends had a CL500 when they first came out, while it was a nice car it wasn't worth the money. Even he admits it was a mistake to get that car, he traded it in two(maybe three) years later for a SL65 which he LOVES. His car prior to the CL500 was a CLK430, which he also loved; the CL was just an over priced black sheep.
Buying a brand new NSX was considered to be one of the ultimate wastes of cash ever.
The NSX depreciated quite a bit. Well, guess what. If you made it rich in one of those dotcoms, who cares! Sour grapes for those that couldn't afford one.

But I guess most of the mass produced stuff will depreciate as the miles add up.

How come Bentleys aren't on that list? An Arnage depreciates like 30k the first year. That list seems a bit off.

The NSX's $89,000 price tag gives the sports car the high depreciation that, more than anything, makes ownership expensive. Beyond depreciation, the NSX also demands relatively high amounts for maintenance and insurance.

The list does not include super exotic cars that sell in small numbers. It is based on ownership-cost projections for production vehicles available in 2005.

Maintnence Schedule doesn't look too rediculous either so unless they're charging an insane amount for scheduled maintnence, that doesn't make sense either.
