the whole reason why i'd get an M5 or RS4 would be to accomplish it being my daily driver and sports car. The RS4 does have AWD which would be more realistic for chicago weather, but the RWD/V10/7SP SMG of the M5 is oh so tempting.

It looks like an unanimous decision! Interesting. Wondering how it will handle the snow, will need snow tires for sure.

Like shit They are not great in the snow. Snow tires would help, but if a decent size snow storm is forcasted, work from home.

I doubt anyone would pick a 540 over an M5, even daily driver.

But the 540 is still a tyte car

This what I did to mine today:

I rather have a E55 as my daily driver.

But on the track? M5 hands down.

This is a M5 vs. 540i thread... no fun

M5 vs. E55 vs. RS6... that would be more interesting

I can only imagine how much fun the M5 would be in the snow. My roomate had an M3 sedan and put some snow tires on it and still wound up in a ditch. AND he drove the thing like a grandma 24/7. Good luck with snow season.

I'm not sure if I'd want a stick as my daily driver. The new RL seems like the perfect DD to me

Hot car obviously, but I can’t imagine it as a daily driver in PA.
If you can swing it, even an older used one, you definitely need a FWD or 4WD beater for snow duty.

snow.....lol....if transit isn't really an issue fine but no way i could get away with it. RWD w/ that much juice..... you'd better have a couple of hundred pounds of sand bags in the trunk

I got bored of driving the auto CL-S after a couple of months. I can honestly say that that was my last auto. I don't even think about it when I shift a manual and I'm stuck in traffic at least an hour a day.

same here but i bought another CLS.....3 pedals I really don't think about it much unless there is a traffic jam and/or some huge incline while it's raining and there is an asshole who insists on riding my bumper....

my old roomate's father had an 2000 or 2001 M5 as a daily driver, his lease was up and now he has a 2004 E55 AMG... they are also loaded up the butt

If I assumed I could have an M5 as my daily driver, I wouldn't take it. It's winter 8 months a year up here.

When I get my M5, it will be my daily driver... unless I get the RS4 instead which I'm leaning more towards to since it's AWD and I live in Chicago.

Why buy an M5 and not drive it every chance you get? It's got 4 doors and it's practical, and thus makes the perfect daily driver. And what's wrong with driving it in the snow and salt-covered roads anyway.... it's a bimmer sedan, not a lamborghini.
