Word of caution when using a power drill...

Make sure you check what's behind the surface.

I was installing the new race plastics on my GSX-R today and everything was going fine until I started drilling holes at the bottom for the fasteners.

Next thing I know, there is a green liquid spewing everywhere. I knew this drill ain't liquid-cooled so I knew I was in trouble.

I ended up putting a neatly drilled hole in the side of my radiator. I knew the radiator sat behind the plastics; I simply misjudged the depth.

And the race is next weekend. If JB Weld doesn't work, I'm gonna have to get a new one in by Wednesday somehow.

FML.

you should've put a piece of wood or something in between what you were drilling and the radiator.

Use some cement to cover it up, it should be alright... Or weld it.

That sucks. I feel your pain. I am the master of turning a "simple 5 minute job" into a huge project.

At least you didn't drill into the gas tank, the battery or a body part.

Hope the rest of this weekend and next go better for you and the bike.

Ugh, I hate drilling around stuff like that. Had to put subs into an older Mercedes tonight, and if anyone here has worked on one in the back you will know what I am talking about. Between the rear seats and the trunk = big ass gas tank, and you need to find a place to drill to get through. Fun times.

I was surprised at how often people drilled into their gas tanks. In college I used to work at a shop that did a shit ton of welding (mainly exhaust, but we never turned away people who would pay us to do simple shit for them). I lost count of how many people called asking if we would patch the gas tank.

That sucks. Take it to a shop, and I wouldn't race on JB Weld. As much as we love the stuff, I'd get a real weld done before racing.

I remember cutting the stock plate holder to make room for the eliminator brackets for my gxxr, and I cut all the electrical wires that connect the taillights blinkers etc.

Go to off topic. Then scroll down to where the ramblings link is. It will be right about that.
