Wipers on = headlights on in California?

I received an email today warning those of us in California that DMV just changed the laws so that whenever you have windshield wipers on, you *must* have your headlights on. I've since done some research and found this webpage:

http://www.mrtraffic.com/2005.htm

Does anyone have more information about this?

New law. Should have been like that anyway. Increases the visibility of your car to other cars on the road. Just a safety measure.

Actually no. According to the webpage above, the actual law states: “every motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, be operated with headlamps whenever weather conditions prevent a driver from clearly discerning a person or other motor vehicle on the highway from a distance of 1000 feet, or when driving in conditions that require windshield wipers to be in continuous use.”

In Jersey it's not one of those things they can pull you over for. (much like cell phone usage or not wearing seat belts)

But if you get pulled over for something else (ie.....speeding, running a light, accident, etc.....) They can/will add the wipers/cell phone/seatbelts charge to the ticket.

Its been a state law up and down the east coast and mid west for years.

Its just smart driving, hell, they teach it to you in drivers ed.

People in cali are just fucking dumb....hardly anyone turns their lights on even at night......let alone rain...

fuck...in these huge rains we've had the last couple weeks I've seen some genius who are driving in hard rain with their brights on.......cause they are too stupid to realize its only making them more blind.

If you're out on the highway, it's probably less noticeable to the police, but once you get into the towns and boroughs, that's where they get you.
