Windshield wipers

Ok, this is for 2002 Corolla. This is the first time that we are going to change the wipers...i know...should have done it a long long time ago. Now when I was trying to change it, it doesn't want to come off. There's this release button on the wipers but when I press it, it doesn't do jack...tried yanking it off but it won't budge. What should I do to get it off...someone told me to use pliers and pry the damn thing off. The wipers been on the car since Nov 2001. Help please.

Lift the whole wiper arm off the windshield (like you do when cleaning the bottom half of the windshield). The whole arm should be in mid-air. Turn the wiper blade so it is in a vertical/almost vertical position (so like this: | or / instead of how it usually rests like this: ------) . Then press the release button and slide the wiper off the clip (pull downwards -- assuming the attachments are the same as on the TL....there are three different ways a wiper clips onto the wiper arm...depends on the kind of wiper arm used for that car).
