Will an S4 make me any faster?
I was walking my dog this morning and passed by a new Audi S4 and started to drool - v. nice with power to drive all 4 wheels. Who wouldn't want one (given you don't care about back seat legroom, reliability, cost)? I see a lot of them in the Chicago, so the answer is a lot of people.
But, the real question is "Would owning this car get me there any faster than my 6MT?"
I travel all over the city on a weekly basis, and I'd say its a no:
1. I wouldn't be willing to go any faster on the highway - one is too much of a mark for the State Police in that car.
2. The Nav unit wouldn't be as as nice (does it have one?), so I wouldn't find where I'm going as fast.
3. Not as reliable - more time on the side of the road, or in the shop, and forced to drive some POS.
4. Spend more time at the gas station
5??

Audi uses a nav system with an arrow and some text, NOT a map display. I think if it's represent it's in the gauge cluster.
But remember, what you said is also true of a rusted-out Tacoma 4-cylinder : )

Thats what people assume since it's german or audi/vw.
i used to own an A4 before the tsx. nice car. sure german cars have a bit more "problems". but what car doesnt have problems. just the tsx alone has a few all the rattleing, the buzzing sound, loose seat, the recent recall on the wiring, the bad batch of trannies, brake wrapping and few stories about car shutting down or not starting. These cars share their problems too.
I never really had problems with my car, the control arm bushing was the only problem i had with the car, it wore out. but i got that replaced through warrenty.
Audis do have navi systems.
the tsx eats up more gas then my audi did, but sure the s4 will eat up more gas, since its a 4.2 v8.
But the AWD comes in handy. dont need snow chains, safer in wet conditions, and helps you pull out of taffic with the help of the extra HP.
I miss my audi.

Sorry, not a MB fan...don't agree with their 'philosophy'
MB: Luxury cars with sport added to them
BMW: Sport cars with luxury added to them.

Never said I'd take a C55 over an M3.
But Merc phiosophy is slowing changing for the better as well. The new SLK is a prime example of that.
SLK > Z4

What was this thread about?
For some reason this has become a MB v BM v ... discussion.
So much for comparing what car would get one around town the quickest.
Its sad that we dream about what most of us don't and won't ever have, rather than relishing in the fact that our car can get around faster than these cars (which primarily serve to highlight the poor distribution of wealth in the world- now if that isn't a change of topic... )

After thinking about this question for a while: It seems to me like even though the top speed you allow yourself to go would be unchanged that your average speed would most definitely increase (I know it would for me ). So yes, the S4 would make you faster.

Am I the only one that does not see the point behind comparing a TSX versus an S4. The S4 is a very, very, very fast car. Audi geared this thing to be an "M" killer so no disrespect as I love my TSX but the S4 would stomp any TSX it met, not mention darn near double the price. The MB looks nice but again..... would stomp any TSX it met. One last thing...if you are looking for a daily driver neither of these two are it. Keep the TSX!! German car equals HIGH HIGH maintenence!!

S4
Having owned a 2002 S4 I wouldn't own a 2004. The body styles are up to personal preference so that aside the V8 just isn't all that. The twin turbo V6 with a $500 chip will out perform the new V8 all day long. Not to mention the rush of the turbos kicking your back side without even downshifting : ) Pure euphoria! The downside.....Making a house payment for a car! I really miss my S4 but couldn't justify the high payments. I am pretty happy with my TSX. It keeps me happy with its handling and performance, although the brakes leave a little to be desired. The TSX does everything I ask it too and gives me 26 mpg doing it!

But, what about in the real world, driving around a big city such as Chicago? Would one be able to utilize the S4 considerable advantages to make a difference in the transit time from one side of the city to the other (and I live in the real world where tickets count against you)?
