Yeah I hear ya, but for me since I have a pop-up in my CTS-V I am used to them. Plus the one in Q7 is very thin, and I can always keep it down while driving if I wanted to and control everything through the instrument cluster and wheel. But the wife loves it and that's what matters since it's her SUV..
Happy wife, happy life!
Pop-up screens seem to be where things are going anyways. I suppose it might be because I'm used to static screens, and I'd probably embrace it with time
Wow, that dash layout is interesting. Looks like Google Earth satellite view? Shame AndroidAuto can't do that. But I'll what I can get with Google maps > OE NAV.

Yes, that is Google Earth satellite view, which as I mentioned you can zoom into pretty close to a street view.

still, sucks you bought something with just a little over 300hp (because that's why you buy a 3 ton SUV).
Even when I win I lose, so what's the point..She wins no matter what.....

Don't tell her I said this but I would smoke that 5000lb piece of junk....
I know I am going to begin to sound like a mental patient constantly repeating the same thing over and over, but while the 5.5 is nuts on something this big, what really amazes me is how light it feels on it's feet.
From what I have heard APR is working on a stage 1 tune that is rumored to put the 3.0 in the 400HP / 400LB FT neighborhood which would be insane in something this size. However, at this point in stock form it is more than enough power than my wife will ever need and she will drive it 90% of the time. And if I want to go faster I can always drive my other car.....
On the other hand, another rumor I have heard is that some Audi dealers will actually install these tunes. Now that could be a game changer, because if I can get a tune like that done that is authorized by Audi it is going to present a BIG problem trying to control myself from not doing it..
It's more than just a rumor, it's already the case. Audi dealers have been installing tunes on vehicles for a long time now and it doesn't void the warranty whatsoever. The amazing part about a lot of tunes is not only do you get MORE POWA! but you also get better fuel economy (when not abusing that POWA!). It really makes me wonder why cars don't come from the factory already tuned like this. Part of me thinks it has to do with power hierarchies and the other part of me thinks it's to prevent warranty repairs.

Our local Dealer here in Edmonton (southgate Audi) installs revo tunes. I was going to buy a tiguan before I bought my RDX and was looking to get it tuned, found that the local Audi dealer installs the Revo tunes.

Here are just few a the different ways you can configure the instrumentation.
This is the Google Earth View zoomed out for the pic, I can zoom in on it to show the actual street very clear
Thank you so much for the extra pics. It looks absolutely stunning. I am in love with that exterior and interior color combination. It just looks so crisp. I also am in awe at that digital cluster, it's just so incredibly sharp and clear. If anybody knows how to do crisp displays it is Audi! I am just wondering, if you have the navigation screen hidden, can you still view navigation on the digital cluster? What I'm wondering I guess is if say someone really didn't like that screen (I happen to like it) couldn't they always have it hidden? I think the major bonus with that screen being hide able is say you are on the highway, you can lower it and just enjoy a nice unobstructed view. With Acuras' dash bin type navigation layout I remember in my MDX and RDX it would often feel very cramped and claustrophobic in there sometimes.
I was feeling somewhat 50:50 on the exterior design but today I seen a black one on the road and it just looks so darn slick. I really really like it. Congratulations again!

Superb interior and color combo. Adequate powertrain,. My only reserve, compared to its predecessor is about this new 'square' exterior styling in all recent Audi. A great buy nonetheless.

IMO I think it has to do most with the warranty repairs more than anything else.

As far as the tune goes, IMO I think the reason they don't come from the factory like this is mostly due to the risk of more warranty repairs that the mfg would be responsible for..
Well it was between Glacier White Met, Ink Blue Met or the Graphite Grey Met, but regardless of the exterior color the interior had to be the Nougat Tan. We really loved the Ink Blue which on a cloudy day looks black. But it would also be a pain in the neck to take care of, and since I've owned 5 black cars over the years I swore I would never buy another. I love a black car but I am way too OCD to own another. And since my wife was just coming out of a White Pearl Lexus she wanted something different so we went with the grey..
Yes, if the nav screen on the dash is hidden I can still use the nav in the instrument cluster. I can even have the nav in the instrument cluster displaying while having something else (Media, Drive select etc.) showing on the pop-up and vice-versa.. And as I mentioned in another post the pop-screen is so thin and sleek I like having it up..
As far as the looks go, some people find it boring, too "mini-vanish" (I made up a word) but when we saw it in person we both thought it was elegant with a sporty undertone to it.. Funny thing is I originally pulled into the Audi dealer planning to look at the new A4 Allroad, there was only one which was a customer order about to be prepped for delivery. The salesman let me sit in it and it was a little tighter in the rear than I expected but still would have worked.
Then we saw the Q7 and it's presence in person was awesome. I have always liked the previous gen Q7 but seeing the new one parked right next to the older one in the lot made me immediately appreciate the new design, which may be more "slab sided" but IMO the lines are more cleaner and crisp which adds to a more modern look. Very much the same as the new 2018 Q5 looks next to the previous gen.
JT, fucking awesome, man. Thanks for sharing...quite the stable.
Love that post about smoking that 5000 lb pos!
Thank you...
I had the V out yesterday and after getting on it a little merging onto the highway the Mrs realized that although her Q7 is real quick for what it is, she shouldn't mess with me.... LOL
I can't lie...
I get lots of compliments on my V all the time.
it's looking pretty right with the wheels and stance being perfect now...love it...even the trailer hitch receiver...it all just looks so...
EVIL and purposeful
Yup, I really don't ever see myself getting rid of it... Plus, since My Dad (74 now) who had a V coupe at the time drove me and my oldest son (now 24) to pick it up in VA four years ago at Lindsey Caddy our connection to it is too strong.. Plus my oldest has already claimed ownership to it which his brothers aren't to happy about. Since he is as anal, if not worse than I am with his cars it's ok with me.. I'll have to make it up to my middle and youngest son in some other way...

The wheels and stance on your Wagon looks great, I don't have the guts to lower mine cause of the roads here, but would love to..
As I just mentioned in the Most Recent Shot of Your Ride thread... Every time I drive it, it still puts a smile on my face which to me is priceless..
It's like you're not even on the planet in this thing
I was behind a truck in the passing lane, cruising real smooth this morning
Then all of a sudden some douchebag (mirror sunglasses, dickbag beard) speeds up in the middle lane to block off the truck
Douche was in a Porsche Macan, dirty and marks of hitting a parking pole on the rear passenger door.
Truck ends up cutting off the guy because of slow moving vehicle ahead
Douche in middle lane could see slow moving guy, seemingly sped up to keep truck from cutting in front
I just hang back and get behind douche in the middle lane to go around..
I got back in passing lane, douche matches speed.. same thing, another slow mover 100 yards up
Flipped douche off and went warp speed...
My sons aren't getting this thing.. I'm being buried in it.
Yeah, I've said that too when they piss me off...

So true people are driving more and more like a-holes... I watched some d-bag on Sat in traffic weaving in and out like a lunatic to get nowhere.. I mean he kept switching lanes but couldn't go anywhere because traffic was heavy..Some other a-hole in same traffic tailgating another guy even though no one could move any faster than 5 to 10mph..

That's mostly where I am, too. Today when it was pouring I quattro'd the shit out of some slow people, but normally it's chill and let traffic develop in front of me.

Never heard that term before, and so you know I plan on using it and telling people I made it up.. ....LOL

You're a better man than me because I am never having this conversation with my wife...
